(Blind River, Ontario) From July 13 – 15, 2005 the East Algoma – Blind River OPP had two additional break and enters reported to them.

Between July 4 – 13, 2005, a residence on Victoria Street, Blind River was broken into and a quantity of jewellery was stolen.

Between July 11 – 14, 2005, a residence in the 100 block of Leacock Street, Blind River was broken into and a quantity of jewellery was stolen. The value is estimated at $1450.00.

31 Cannabis Plants Seized

(Desbarats, Ontario) On July 14, 2005, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Drug Enforcement Section executed a warrant to search property located on McLelland Side Road, Johnson Township in Desbarats, Ontario.

Approximately 31 marihuana plants in various growth stages were located with a potential street value of $23,500.00.

No charges have been laid. This investigation remains under investigation.

Assault Charge

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) - On July 16, 2005 police were called to the local hospital in regards to an assault that occurred on July 15 at approximately 11:30 p.m.

Investigation revealed that the victim and a friend were walking on a trail towards the rear of a local high school when the assault occurred.

The suspect allegedly asked the victim for a "smoke" which the victim could not supply.

The victim was then allegedly punched by the suspect and sustained a fractured jaw.

Charged with Aggravated Assault is Jeno SIMONE (18) of Elliot Lake.

SIMONE is scheduled to appear in court on September 6th, 2005.

Investigation continuing.

Chainsaw Theft

(Desbarats, Ontario) On Saturday July 9, 2005 the East Algoma – Thessalon OPP were alerted to a theft that occurred earlier that day on Barber Side Road, Desbarats, Ontario.

A large orange Husquvarna chainsaw with an 18” blade and a red Homelite Bandit weed eater were removed from under a trailer.

Mischief Leads To Investigation

(Thessalon, Ontario) On Friday July 15, 2005 the East Algoma – Thessalon OPP were advised of ongoing mischiefs at a residence in Thessalon, Ontario.

In the past the owners of the house have been having problems with someone letting air out of their vehicle tires, attempting break and enters, putting firewood in front of their door and today writing in magic marker on the hood of their car. The suspect wrote on the hood of their car “I’m back”

Truck Fire

A transport truck fire near Pancake Bay on Sunday 17 Jul 2005 resulted in the highway being closed for almost 8 hours. The southbound truck was completely destroyed in the incident. Initial concerns centred on a cargo including helium residue. After assurances from CANUTEC the highway was reopened. There were no reported injuries associated to this fire.

Domestic Disputes

Hot sticky weather has a way of shortening tempers and this past weekend it was evident that some folk had exhausted all patience with each other. On six occasions Sault Detachment officers were dispatched to attend domestic disagreements. Two of those incidents result in persons being charged for assault. A 35-year-old female from the Echo Bay was charged for assaulting her 41-year-old husband. In the second incident a 27-year-old male from Rankin First Nation was charged for assaulting a female.

House Party Troubles

Police were called to a party on Frontenac Street on the Rankin First Nation because the party had ceased being an enjoyable get together. The call came in at 2:30 A.M. on the 16th of July. An 18-year-old female attended the party but was told to leave. Apparently this advice was not well received. A fight ensued and a 21-year-old woman was shoved and a 17-year-old female was assaulted with a beer bottle. This young woman was treated at Sault Area hospital for lacerations. The suspect then left the residence on foot. This incident is still under investigation by Rankin First Nation Police and charges are pending.

ATV Driver Charges

Shortly after 11:00 P.M. R.I.D.E. officers encountered two ATV’s being operated on the Garden River First Nation. One of these vehicles eluded police but the other was apprehended. The driver, James Pichette, 36, of Garden River has been charged with Care and Control of a Motor vehicle while being over .08.

Harmony Beach R.I.D.E Program

R.I.D.E. programs in the Harmony Beach are over the weekend saw in excess of 600 vehicles being checked. A small quantity of alcohol was seized, four persons received 12-hour suspensions and six persons were charged with non-alcohol related infractions.
