INJURED BEAR IN THE AREA

(Blind River, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP would like to advise the public of a potential injured bear in the area. Sunday July 27, 2008 at approximately 10:30pm, police attended the area of Beach and Oak Drive (Forest Glenn Subdivision) regarding a large bear. The bear was later shot by police and the injured bear fled into the wooded area.

The Ministry of Natural Resources spoke with residents in the area and began tracking the bear. The MNR is concerned for the safety of the public as the injured bear may lie down to heal itself at which time someone could come upon it creating a very dangerous situation.

At this time, Conservation Officers continue to track the bear. The assistance of the K9 unit may be required if the bear is not found in the next 24 hours.
The public is advised to report any sightings of this large injured bear (in the Forest Glenn Subdivision Area-Oak Drive) to 911 or local OPP.

Any other black bear problems, unrelated to this specific situation should be reported to 1 866 514-2327 (Bear Wise Line).
