A Few More Drivers Caught Drinking and Driving

Over a busy three day period with various occurrences ranging from traffic complaints to domestic occurrences, officers conducted several R.I.D.E checks at various locations throughout the OPP detachment area. About 158 vehicles were checked resulting in 4 - 12 hour suspensions and 3 HTA related charges.

Also during the weekend, officers investigated 2 motor vehicle accidents involving deer both occurring in the Echo Bay area. No injuries were reported in these accidents. The deer were not so lucky. Police are reminding motorists to always stay alert especially during the night and early morning hours when the deer and moose like to wander on Ontario highways.

FATAL ATV COLLISION

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving an ATV. At approximately 8:23 p.m. on July 26th, 2007, police were called to attend South Bay Road in Elliot Lake. On scene officers located an ATV and the victim, a 65-year-old male. The male was transported to St Joseph Hospital in Elliot Lake where he was pronounced deceased.

A post mortem has been scheduled for July 27th, 2007 in Sault Ste Marie.

No further information is available at this time. The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of family members.

Investigation continuing.

POLICE STILL REQUESTING ASSISTANCE OF THE PUBLIC

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On July 26th, 2007 at approximately 7:00 p.m. the East Algoma OPP attended Spine Beach in Elliot Lake regarding a possible missing youth.

Police still haven’t identified the possible missing girl. The girl may be between the ages of 12 and 16 year old, blond hair with a pink stripe. She was last seen swimming at the beach in a blue swimsuit and may go by the name Darcy.

Police also learned that someone driving an older grey pick up truck may have dropped off the girl at the beach shortly before 7:00 p.m.

CONCERNED CITIZEN ASSIST POLICE

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On July 25th, 2007 at approximately 2:10 p.m. officers of the East Algoma OPP received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a possible impaired driver.

Police attended the area of Charles Walk and located the driver.

Charged with Impaired Driving is Beverley BEAUDRY (55) of Elliot Lake. BEAUDRY is scheduled to appear in court on September 4th, 2007.

GOLF COURSE VICTIM OF BREAK, ENTER AND THEFT

(Thessalon, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP currently investigating a Break and Enter at the Livingstone Creek Golf Course in Thessalon.

The break, enter and theft occurred sometime between 8:00 p.m. on July 23rd, 2007 and 7:15 a.m. on July 24th, 2007. Unknown person(s) entered the clubhouse and removed beer and bottles of liquor. Also taken were 3 boxes of chocolate bars.
