MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION RESULTS IN CHARGES (Hilton Township, Ontario) On Sunday July 8, 2007 at approximately 11:45 pm a motor vehicle collision on Hilton Road, Hilton Township, Ontario was reported to the East Algoma Thessalon OPP.
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION RESULTS IN CHARGES

(Hilton Township, Ontario) On Sunday July 8, 2007 at approximately 11:45 pm a motor vehicle collision on Hilton Road, Hilton Township, Ontario was reported to the East Algoma Thessalon OPP.

The driver exited the roadway, striking a pole and fence.

The driver, David Timothy STEMP (34) of Hilton Beach has been charged under the Criminal Code with “Over 80 mgs” and “Impaired Operation”.

STEMP is scheduled to appear in Thessalon court on September 27, 2007.

THEFTS REPORTED OVER WEEKEND

(Thessalon, Ontario) On Sunday July 8, 2007 the East Algoma Thessalon OPP received two separate complaints of items being stolen.

A 2002 Yellow Old Town Loon 14 foot kayak was stolen from a residence on Stanley Street and,

A Raleigh 21 speed mountain bike was stolen from a residence on Water Street.

SEVERAL CHARGES LAID

(Thessalon First Nation, Ontario) On Saturday July 7, 2007 at approximately 10:30 pm the East Algoma Thessalon OPP responded to Thessalon First Nation, Ontario regarding numerous people screaming, yelling and fighting.

Upon arrival, officers located a female lying on the road who had allegedly been assaulted.

Josie WABIGWAN (29) of Thessalon First Nation was charged under the Criminal Code with “Assault”. WABIGWAN is scheduled to appear in Thessalon Court on September 27, 2007.

Later that evening, members of the East Algoma Thessalon OPP were called to return to Thessalon First Nation, Ontario for complaints of mischief and assault. Two additional persons were charged.

Robert Hyacinth SIMON (23) of Thessalon First Nation has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

Aggravated Assault
Assault and,
Mischief Under $5000
Robert Stuart CORBIERE (41) of Thessalon First Nation has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm and,
Assault

SIMON and CORBIERE are scheduled to appear in Sault Ste Marie Bail Court today.

Report of a Suspicious Driver Results in an Impaired Charge

The OPP are continually asking the public to report any suspicious activity when they see it. An Aweres Twp resident called the police on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. to report a vehicle that seem to be acting suspiciously. The vehicle was located at the north end of Sault Ste Marie and stopped by an OPP officer. While the feared activity that was reported was not substantiated, the driver of the vehicle was found to have been drinking and also to be a disqualified driver. Charged with Driving over the legal limit , drive while disqualified, drive with no insurance and operate vehicle with an altered license plate is Paul Stanley Smith age 50 of 3rd line Sault Ste Marie.

Verbal Dispute Results In Impaired Driving Charge

On the 7th of July at 1226 a.m. Sault Ste Marie OPP responded to a complaint of a verbal argument on Frontinac St Batchawana First Nation. One of the persons involved in the argument was found by police to have just driven to that location. Charged with impaired driving and driving with more that 80mg% of alcohol is Richard Francis Couture age 34 of Frontinac St Batchawana First Nation

Investigation of a Single Motor Vehicle Accident results in Impaired charge

The OPP responded to a call of a single motor vehicle accident at the end of Mission Road on Batchawana First Nation on the 7th of July at 9:00 p.m. Three men were found walking away from the scene. Investigation at the scene resulted in the driver of the vehicle being charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and breach of probation. Charged is Steven John Russell age 20 of Albert Ste Sault Ste Marie.

Property Stolen from Open Vehicles

The OPP are reminding all vehicle owners to lock their vehicles at all times and ensure any valuable property is out of site. This past weekend two vehicles were entered on Frontinac on Batchawana First Nation with a purse taken out of one of the vehicles. The theft occurred Friday evening around 10:00 p.m. Rarely are vehicles forced open unless valuable property is visible. The thieves are usually looking for cash.

RIDE

The OPP conducted RIDE in three locations this weekend. A total of 57 vehicles were checked resulting in two roadside tests, 1 12 hours suspension and two traffic warnings. The public can expect RIDE checks any where and at any time of the Day in areas patrolled by the OPP.


Camp Vandalized

A remote camp off of Bellevue Valley Rd was found vandalized on Saturday. The camp had last been visited in February. The camp was messed up by spraying insulating foam, throwing stain around and generally making a mess.
