(FOLEYET) – The Foleyet OPP received a report of a bear attack that occurred yesterday (June 9th) in the vicinity of Vimy Creek, near the Ground hog River.

A biologist completing surveying work in the area reports that he was approached by a large black bear repeatedly for a period of nearly 40 minutes yesterday.

The predatory actions of the bear were suppressed by the use of bear spray but the bear continued to return to the man on a number of occasions.

The man managed to reach his truck without injury and attended the OPP detachment to report the incident.

The OPP are working with the MNR in regards to this event.

The OPP is urging persons attending the Kukatush Road area in Reese Township for work, fishing, or recreation to be particularly wary of bear activity.

The predatory actions of bears in certain situations can be highly unpredictable.

Caution is recommended when anyone is venturing into the forest in this area.

Consulting the “bear wise” section of the MNR website at www.bears.mnr.gov.on.ca or by calling  1-866-514-2327 will provide useful safety advice about bears.
