(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – Officers of the East Algoma OPP are currently investigating four (4) incidents regarding unlocked vehicles being entered and items stolen.

On June 11, 2010 at approximately 11:27 p.m. a vehicle parked in a driveway on Hillside Drive South was entered and three credit cards were stolen.

June 12, 2010 police received a call from a resident on Hirshhorn Avenue reporting that sometime during the night unknown person(s) had rifled through his vehicle but nothing was missing.

The next day on June 13, 2010 three vehicles parked in a driveway on Roman Avenue were entered and loose change was taken. Police also received a call regarding an unlocked vehicle on Bennett Drive had been entered and stolen was an IPOD and approximately $10.00 in coins.

The OPP reminds all citizens to protect your vehicle from theft, please follow these simple precautions:

Always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the doors and pocket your key
If you have a garage, use it and lock the door as well as your vehicle
Keep your vehicle registration certificate and proof of insurance on you at all times. Don’t leave these documents in your glove compartment
Always park your vehicle in a well-lit are

AND

Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running
Never leave your car keys in plain view or in an easily accessible area
Never leave valuable objects or packages in full view. Put them in the truck

ATV COLLISION SENDS DRIVER AND PASSENGER TO HOPSPITAL

(Aweres Twp., ON) – Sault Ste. Marie OPP and Aweres Fire Department were dispatched to an ATV collision on Old Mill Road in Aweres Township on Friday evening at 6:00 pm.

An 2006 yellow Outlander ATV travelling westbound on Old Mill Road swerved to avoid an eastbound travelling vehicle, lost control and hit a tree.

Both the male driver and male passenger were ejected from the ATV. Both were transported to Sault Area Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The ATV received extensive damage.

The driver of the ATV, 20 year old Napolean Tousignant of Illinois Ave. in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged Failing to Share Roadway upon Meeting Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario and Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway with no Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act on Ontario.

TRACTOR TRAILER ROLLOVER. CLEAN UP CONTINUES

(Havilland Twp., ON) – On the 12th June at 8:50 am Sault Ste. Marie OPP and Goulais River Fire Department responded to a tractor trailer unit travelling Northbound on highway 17 in Havilland Township that had rolled over in the Northbound ditch.

A 2005 white Freightliner with an attached closed trailer had rolled onto the passenger side approximately 06 km south of Havilland Shores Drive. The driver had pulled over to the far side of the northbound lane on the shoulder of the Highway to inspect the trailer when the trailer began to sink and roll over into the soft shoulder, causing the truck to roll into the ditch. The fuel tanks began leaking along with liquid from inside the rear of the trailer.

The load included four 45 gallon drums of flammable liquids, isopropyl alcohol and several packages of live plants, and 12 other drums containing dangerous goods.

The Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Transportation both attended the scene.

The tractor trailer unit and its cargo are expected to be removed today.

The driver did not sustain any injuries.

The incident is still under investigation.

TRACTOR TRAILER ROLLOVER HIGHWAY 17 EAST

CHARGES LAID


(MacDonald Township, ON) – Saturday, June 12 at 3:15 pm OPP and the Echo Bay Fire Department were dispatched to a tractor trailer rollover on Highway 17 east in the westbound lane, 4 km west of Highway 638 turnoff.

There was no hazardous material on board.

There were two occupants in the vehicle. The passenger was transported to Sault Area Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries and later released.

The driver, 22 year old Benipal Gurpreet of Margate Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba was charged with Failing to Drive in Marked Lane under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO NUMEROUS CHARGES

(Aweres Twp., ON) - On the 13 June at 3:53 am OPP officer’s on patrol spotted an unplated older model Volkswagon stopped at the intersection of McIntryre Road and Highway 17 with three occupants inside, one female and two males.

Further investigation revealed that the 15 year old male driver had been drinking and received a three day driver’s licence suspension.

A short while later, the officer’s were patrolling in the Trout Lake area and observed another unplated blue Oldsmobile vehicle being operated on the roadway with the same two males involved, this time with a 19 year old behind the wheel.

The 15 year old male youth has been charged with the following: Drive Motor Vehicle – no plates, Drive Motor vehicle – no license, Permit Motor vehicle to Operate without Insurance, and Person under 19 years consume liquor.

19 year old Paul Archibald of Hiltz Road in Aweres Township has been charged with the following; Permit motor vehicle to be operated without insurance, Fail to Apply for Permit upon becoming owner, Permit unlicensed person to drive motor vehicle, and Drive Motor Vehicle under Suspension.
