ANOTHER ANIMAL COLLISION (MacDonald Twp., Ont.) A vehicle traveling northbound on Highway !7 received minor damage when a deer ran out in front of the car on Friday the 13th around 6:30 a.m. The deer ran off into the bush.

MORE BEAR SIGHTINGS

(Fenwick Twp., Ont.) A bear was spotted in the yard of a residence on Old Highway 17 late Friday morning near Mountainview School.

The school was notified and patrols of the area were made. The bear was not located.

DRIVER NOT INJURED IN MOOSE COLLISION

(Garden River First Nation., Ont.) A female driver was not injured when around 12:45 a.m. Saturday morning when the car she was driving struck a moose on Highway 638 west of Ojibway Park.

The moose succumb to the injuries and the vehicle had to be towed.

NO INJURIES IN DEER COLLISION

(Garden River First Nation, Ont.) Saturday, June 14th at around 5:00 a.m. a vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 17 collided with a deer crossing the Highway.

There was minor damage to the car and the deer ran off.

VEHICLE STOP RESULTS IN LIQUOR CHARGE

(Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) A traffic stop by an OPP officer on Highway 17 north Saturday evening around 5:30 p.m. revealed open liquor in a vehicle.

Charged with having liquor in open container in other that licensed premises, residence or private place under the Liquor License Act of Ontario is 19 year old David ZWART of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

O.P.P. LOOKING FOR DRIVER WHO DID NOT STOP

(Montreal Mining Kincaid Twp., Ont.) A van traveling southbound on Highway 17 near Agawa on Saturday, June 14th around 11:50 p.m. was sideswiped by another vehicle hauling a utility trailer traveling northbound.

The northbound truck with a utility trailer attached crossed the centre line and the trailer sideswiped a green Dodge Caravan’s driver door, rear passenger door, rear wheel well and tail light.

No one was injured.

The truck with the utility trailer did not stop but continued northbound.

OPP are looking for this vehicle. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.

VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO DRUG CHARGES

(Aweres Twp., Ont.) A vehicle stop Sunday June 15th at 1:50 a.m. by Sault Ste. Marie OPP officers found one male to be in Possession of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

Arrested and charged is 22 year old Daniel BRETON of 1071 People’s Road, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

BRETON was released on a Promise to Appear for court on 11th August, 2008.

BLACK BEAR TURNS OVER BARBECUE

(Aweres Twp., Ont.) Sunday, June 15th at 8:00 p.m. OPP received a report of bear in the back yard of a residence on Trout Lake Road in Aweres Township.

The bear had turned over a barbecue in the yard.

The bear was gone prior to Police arrival.


CAMP AND ADJACENT BUILDINGS BROKEN INTO

(Ley Twp., Ont.) Sometime between Sunday the 8th of June and Sunday the 15th June 2008 a camp and shed on Cedar Road in Ley Township was broken into and items stolen.

The lock had been cut off the shed and a Honda All Terrain Vehicle removed. Also stolen from the shed were a Black and Decker saws-all and a Makita cordless drill.

The door to the main camp was kicked in and the following items stolen: an assortment of liquor, four full face helmets and an axe.

Marine Unit out on the water

(LAIRD TWP., Ont.) Members of the O.P.P. Highway Safety Division Marine Unit were out on the waters of the North Channel this weekend.

A vessel check on the North Channel near Pine Island Saturday afternoon revealed a Liquor License Act violation.

Charged with Having Liquor in open container in other than licensed premises, residence, residence or private place contrary to the Liquor License Act of Ontario is 46 year old Lisa VANSCHIAK of Richards Landing, Ontario.
