LIFETIME OF COLLECTING STOLEN IN BREAK AND ENTER

(Heyden, Ont.) Sault Ste Marie OPP continue to investigate a series of seven break and enters in the Upper Island Lake area of Heyden.

On Friday June 1 2007 home and camp owners arrived at their properties to find that thieves entered seven different residences and stole a lengthy list of property. Home and camps located on Ulch, Brooks and Clark Roads, in Heyden, were forcibly entered. In most cases these homes were ransacked and anything of value was taken. It appears that sometime during the darkened hours of Thursday night and Friday morning thieves broke into the homes.

One property owner had been collecting coins and Canadian dollar bills for over thirty years. His entire life collection of coins and bills are now gone. He estimates the value of the collection at over $50,000.00. Some of the currency dates back to 1850.

Some of the missing property includes an extensive list of power tools, jewelry, hockey card collections, alcohol, firearms, food, DVD’s, swords and knives, electronics, and clothing.

Due to the large amount of property that was taken these criminals had to be using some type of vehicle.

If you see anyone with an unusual amount of old coins and bills or if one of your neighbours arrived home just after sun up on Friday morning with a load of goods, this is information that may help get the coin collection and all the other victims property back.

Crime Stoppers pays up to $2000.00 for tips that lead to an arrest. If you know any information on who victimized these hard working homeowners, call Crime Stoppers or Sault Ste Marie OPP.
