SNOW MACHINE OPERATOR CHARGED (Aweres Twp., ON) – On Saturday, 27 February OPP were conducting RIDE spot checks on Highway 17 in Aweres Township. At 07:30 pm the driver on a southbound snow machine was checked.

(Aweres Twp., ON) – On Saturday, 27 February OPP were conducting RIDE spot checks on Highway 17 in Aweres Township.

At 07:30 pm the driver on a southbound snow machine was checked. The driver was administered the roadside screening device and registered a fail.

Arrested and charged with Operating a motor vehicle with more than 80 mgs. of alcohol is 26 year old Ryan MENARD of Kelly Creek Road in Goulais River, Ontario.

Menard was released on a Promise to Appear for Court 16 March 2010.

STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating a theft at a local grocery store in Elliot Lake.

On February 27, 2010 at 6:04 p.m. police were called to attend 151 Ontario Avenue. On scene police learned that the subject had attended the store and attempted to leave the area without paying for items. When confronted by a store employee the subject fled the scene.

Police are currently reviewing video to ascertain the identity of the subject.

ONE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The East Algoma OPP has concluded their investigation regarding a possible assault.

On February 20, 2010 at approximately 11:48 p.m. police received a call to attend the local hospital regarding an assault. Through investigation police learned that the victim had been at a local coffee shop when she was approached by the subject. The subject then allegedly assaulted the victim.

Charged with Assault is Chantal OUELLETTE (18) of Elliot Lake. OUELLETTE is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on April 6, 2010.

ONE CHARGED WITH POSSESSION

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – February 27, 2010 at approximately 2:58 a.m. while on general patrol, police checked on a parked vehicle in the parking lot of a local restaurant in Elliot Lake.

After speaking with the occupants and with further investigation one occupant was charged.

Charged with Possession of Marihuana – under 30 grams is Andre Luc GAUDREAU (20) of Sturgeon Falls.

GAUDREAU is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on May 4, 2010.

YOUNG SNOWMOBILER GOES THROUGH ICE

On Saturday 27 Feb 10 at 2:00pm – Manitoulin OPP were called in regards to a snow machine that went through the ice in the North Channel just off Low Island Beach in Little Current. Police arrived to find that the single operator a 13 year old boy had been operating a 2004 Artic Cat Snowmobile by the beach area at Low Island. He decided to follow a set of snow mobile tracks out into the North Channel. About 50 meters from shore he attempted to turn around when the ice cracked and broke sending the youth and snow machine into about 6 feet of water. He managed to crawl out on his own and walked to shore with no injuries. Parents were advised of incident and the snow machine was removed by Boyles Marine in Little Current.

TORONTO MALE ARRESTED FOR TRAFFICING DRUGS ON MANITOULIN

On Sunday 28 Feb 10 at 2:54 pm – Manitoulin OPP were on patrol travelling through the M’Chigeeng First Nation near Spruce Street when they stopped a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am vehicle upon further investigation a quantity of controlled substances were seized and as result of this the driver was charged. Charged with Possession for the Purpose of a Controlled Substance under Sec 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act is John AMOAH age 32 of Toronto, Ontario. He was released and will be appearing in Gore Bay Provincial court to answer to the said charge.

HOCKEY TEAM VICTIMS OF THEFT

On Sunday 28 Feb 10 at 9:20 pm – Manitoulin OPP officers were called to attend the Little Current/Howland Recreational Complex in Little Current in regards to a theft complaint. Officers arrived and learned that a visiting hockey team, the Blind River Beavers were in Little Current for a game against the Manitoulin Islanders. They changed in one of the dressing rooms at the complex and left personal property like I-phones, I-pods, cell phones, and a quantity of cash in the dressing room. When they returned to the dressing room after the game they noticed that the items had been stolen. The value of the items and cash were valued over $1000.00. Police are continuing their investigation into the thefts and police are asking for assistance that if anyone knows any information about this crime they are asked to call police or crime stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
