LOCAL BUSINESS VICTIM OF MISCHIEF

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) Police are currently investigating a broken window at a local business on Hillside Drive South.

The OPP attended the business on March 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. and learned from the victim that the business was closed at 10:00 p.m. on March 21, 2009 and upon his return on March 22, 2009 noticed unknown person(s) had smashed the glass of the front entrance. Access to the business was not gained.

MARIJUANA FOUND DURING TRAFFIC STOP

(WAWA)– On March 21, 2009 a routine traffic stop on Highway 17, Teirnan Township resulted in two Brantford, Ontario males being charged with Possession of Marijuana under 30 gms contrary to The Controlled Drug and Substance Act. As a result of investigation it was discovered that there was a quantity of what appeared to be Marijuana in the vehicle. The substance was voluntarily turned over to officers at the scene. Matthew POLILLO, age 24 and Timothy RICI, age 27 will appear in Wawa Criminal Court on June 8, 2009 to answer to the charges.

TWO STOLEN VANS RECOVERED

(HORNEPAYNE)- On March 18, 2009 at 8:15am the OPP in Hornepayne received a report that two Dodge Caravans had been stolen overnight from in front of a local residence. As a result of investigation both vehicles were subsequently recovered. Further inquiries have resulted in two local males being identified and charged in this matter. Larry TAYLER, age 22 and Marcel UTRONKI, age 19 have each been charged with Theft under $5000.00; Fail to Comply with Probation Order and Fail to Comply with Recognizance. Both are scheduled to appear in Hornepayne Criminal Court on May 14, 2009.

R.I.D.E.

As a result of RIDE checks throughout the Superior East patrol area, 186 vehicles were checked with two provincial offence charges being laid. No other infractions were noted.

SNOWMACHINE STOLEN

(Aweres Twp., ON) – On Sunday, 22nd March 2009 a blue 2001 Yamaha SRX 700 was stolen from the back of truck parked at Trout Lake.

The snowmachine was stolen sometime between 4:00 am and 10:00 am. There are no suspects.

OPP AND MNR TEAM UP ON SNOWMOBILE PATROL THIS WEEKEND

(Davieaux Twp., ON) – Joint patrols were performed by officers from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ontario Provincial Police Highway Safety Division this past weekend.

The patrols were made in the Mile 38 area, Davieaux Township and Vibeau Township area.

Seventy- three (73) motorized snow vehicles were checked. There were 8 charges laid under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act, 1 (one) charge laid under the Liquor Licence Act, and 6 (six) charges laid under the Fisheries Act.

Motorized snow vehicle patrols were also made in the Trout Lake area.

There were a total of 124 snow machines checked. 2 (two) charges were laid under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act, 1 (one) charge was laid under the Liquor Licence Act, 1(one) charge laid under the Off Road Vehicles Act, and 2 (two) charges laid under the Fisheries Act.

It total for the weekend:

10 charges were laid under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act

2 charges were laid under the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario

1 charge was laid under the Off Road Vehicle Act

8 charges were laid under the Provincial Fisheries Act.

MALE CHARGED IN DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE

(Hodgins Twp., ON) – OPP were called to a residence in Hodgins Township at approximately 6:30 pm on Sunday, 22nd March, 2009.

The female victim was home alone when her spouse attended at her residence and allegedly held an 8” blade serrated edge knife close to her throat and verbally threatened to cause her harm. He then left the residence.

The male was currently on release conditions not to communicate with the victim or attend at her residence.

The victim then contacted a neighbour who called Police who attended the scene.

The spouse was located approximately 4 hours later in the residence of the victim.

A 41 year old male has been arrested and charged with Assault with a Weapon and Failing to Compy with Conditions of his Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is to appear in Bail Court this morning.

UPDATE

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) Officers of the East Algoma OPP have arrested and charged a local male regarding the Break Enter and Theft on Mississauga Avenue Elliot Lake.

Charged is Samuel Noel MCCLEERY (20) of Elliot Lake. MCCLEERY is charged with the following:

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
Break and Enter
Break of Probation

MCCLEERY remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing in Sault Ste Marie on March 23, 2009.
