KEEP YOUR EYES PEALED FOR THIS HAZARD

Sault Ste Marie, Ont.,

With the warmer temperatures and steady rain in our policing area, Sault Ste Marie OPP would like to remind motorist of another driving hazard to watch out for.

The present weather combined with snow, ice clogged culverts and ditches pose the potential for excessive water build up and washouts on area highways and side roads. First thing in the morning and in the early evening many people are driving children to school, hockey, figure skating as well as themselves to work.

Remind yourself of the sections of roadways in your particular area that are prone to be covered with excessive amounts of water or to wash out. At this time of the year pre-plan a secondary route of travel prior to each and every trip. You may be successful in traveling in one direction but a sudden downpour, ice jam, clogged culvert or all of these factors combined has the potential to wash away that route.

If you see an area that has the potential to pose a hazard, call the Ministry of Transportation, your local works department or roads board. Drive with extra caution and be prepared to take the proper driving action should you sudden come upon a section of roadway that is covered with water.

WEEKEND IMPAIRED DRIVERS

Echo Bay, Ont.,

The OPP Traffic and Marine Unit came up with yet another impaired driver while conducting R.I.D.E. checks this weekend.

On Friday night at about 8:00 p.m. members of the OPP Traffic and Marie Unit had a R.I.D.E check set up on Hwy 638 in Echo Bay. Officers checked a vehicle at the spot check and found indicators that the driver had been drinking. The driver was given a roadside test and failed that test.

She was returned to the police detachment for further investigation where Intoxilyzer tests indicated that she was over the legal limit to be driving.

Forty two year old Susan Mary MARQUES of Pumpkin Point Road in Laird Township has been charged with one count of Driving While Over .08 Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. She will appear in court on April 30 to answer to her charge.

Heyden, Ont.,

Once again Sault Ste Marie OPP can prove that we find more than just speeders when we conduct traffic and radar enforcement on our area roadways.

On Saturday morning at about 2:45 a.m. an officer with the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment was traveling on Hwy 17 in the Heyden area when he noticed a vehicle traveling in excess of thirty kilometers over the speed limit

The vehicle was pulled over and the driver showed signs that he had been drinking. The driver was given a roadside breath test and the test indicated that he failed. He was returned to the police detachment for further investigation.

The man was given an Intoxilyzer test and the results indicated that he was over the legal limit. Further investigation also indicated that the man’s licence to drive has been suspended

Forty nine year old Stephen GLAZEBROOK, of Havilland Shores Drive in Goulais River, has been charged with one count of Driving While Over .08 Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and one count of Driving While Under Suspension Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Mr. Glazebrook has been asked to have someone else drive him to Sault Ste Marie court on 07 May 2007.
