THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE (Elliot Lake, ON.) – On May 22, 2009 at approximately 5:15 p.m. members of the East Algoma Elliot Lake OPP were dispatched to a theft on Hutchison Avenue, Elliot Lake, Ontario.

(Elliot Lake, ON.) – On May 22, 2009 at approximately 5:15 p.m. members of the East Algoma Elliot Lake OPP were dispatched to a theft on Hutchison Avenue, Elliot Lake, Ontario.

Two hub caps were stolen from a vehicle parked on Hutchison Avenue.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH OVER 80 MILLIGRAMS OF ALCOHOL

(Blind River, ON.) – On May 22, 2009 at approximately 10:10 p.m. members of the East Algoma OPP stopped a Motor Vehicle on Woodward Avenue, Blind River, Ontario.

As a result the driver, Wayne SCHWEHR (47) of Blind River, Ontario has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with “Over 80 milligrams”

SCHWEHR is scheduled to appear in Blind River Court on July 12, 2009.

MISCHIEF TO SCHOOLS

1) (Elliot Lake, ON.) – On May 23, 2009 at approximately 1:45 p.m. the East Algoma Elliot Lake OPP were dispatched to a school on Edinburgh Road in Elliot Lake, Ontario regarding a mischief to windows.

A window was broken after youths were throwing rocks at the school. The value of the damage is approximately $200.00.

2) (Elliot Lake, ON.) – On May 23, 2009 at approximately 1:45 p.m. the East Algoma Elliot Lake OPP were dispatched to a school on Edinburgh Road in Elliot Lake, Ontario regarding a mischief to windows.

MISCHIEF TO SOLAR LIGHTS

(Blind River, ON.) – On May 23, 2009 at approximately 7:45 a.m. the East Algoma Blind River OPP was contacted regarding a mischief to solar lights on Colonization Road, Blind River, Ontario.

Suspects have torn out solar/garden lights at a couple of residences and smashed them all over the road.

BREAK AND ENTER TO CAMPS

(Thessalon First Nation, ON.) – On May 22, 2009 at approximately 5:30 p.m. members of the East Algoma Thessalon Detachment were dispatched to 3 break and enters located on Lakeshore Drive and Biish Road West, Thessalon First Nation, Ontario.

The break and enter occurred sometime since the long weekend in May.

Alcohol was taken in the break and enter.

BREAK AND ENTER TO BUSINESS

(Elliot Lake, ON.) – On May 24, 2009 at approximately 12:15 a.m. the East Algoma Elliot Lake Detachment were dispatched to a Break and Enter in progress to a business located on Dieppe Avenue, Elliot Lake, Ontario.

A computer was taken in the break and enter, valued at approximately $2000.00.

BREAK AND ENTER TO BUSINESS

(Blind River, ON.) – At approximately 10:30 a.m. on May 21, 2009 members of the East Algoma OPP were dispatched to a break and enter to a business located on Industrial Park Road, Blind River, Ontario.

Approximately $600 - $700 in coins and bills were taken in the break and enter.

The break and enter occurred sometime between Wednesday May 20, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. and Thursday May 21, 2009 at 9:00 a.m.

2 ARRESTED – HELD FOR BAIL

(St. Joseph Island, ON.) – On May 24, 2009 at approximately 10:00 p.m. members of the East Algoma Thessalon Detachment were dispatched to a domestic occurrence in Hilton Beach, Ontario.

As a result 2 people were arrested and have been held for bail court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario today.

Names will not be released due to the domestic nature of the occurrence.

Charges included: Breach of Probation and Fail to Comply with Undertaking.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE

(Aweres Twp., ON) – A vehicle parked on Maki Lake Road early Saturday morning had the left rear window smashed in.

Stolen items from the vehicle included some clothing, a phone charger, school books and a lap top computer.

MALE INJURED IN MOTORCYCLE COLLISION

(Vankoughnet Twp., ON) – OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Saturday, 23 May at 7:40 p.m. on Highway 552 in Vankoughnet Township.

A Harley Davidson motorcycle travelling eastbound at approximately 70 km/hr collided with a cow that had come out of the ditch.

The driver, 48 year old William Devoe of 586 MacDonald St. in Sault Ste. Marie was transported by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital with minor injuries.

OPP INVESTIGATE DROWNING IN REILLY TWP

(Reilly Twp., ON) - Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched to Ranger Lake yesterday evening at approximately 7:50 pm in regards to an overturned boat with one missing occupant.

On the 24th May 2009 at 12:00 a couple set off on Ranger Lake in a 12 foot aluminum boat with a 9.8 outboard motor for a day of fishing.

The weather was sunny with moderate winds from the northwest and 1 foot waves.

As the wind picked up later in day the couple decided to return to the boat launch. The male was driving the boat and the female sitting on the front bench.

A series of waves hit the left side of the boat and both occupants ended up in the water.

The female passenger hung onto the boat while the male was separated from the vessel.

Both were not wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.

The female clung to the boat with the dog as it drifted to shore.

The body of the deceased, 39 year old Travis MacIntosh of 264 Pittsburgh Ave. Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was recovered on the eastern shore of Ranger Lake.

An autopsy is scheduled for this morning.

The investigation is continuing.
