OPEN BURNING REPORTED

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) -  Sault Ste. Marie OPP responded to two fire complaints this weekend.

On Friday, May 25, 2012 at approximately 10:15 pm police were dispatched to a party in a gravel pit off of Trout Lake Road in Aweres Township.

Upon police arrival, a bon fire was observed.

One male was charged under the Forest Fire Prevention Act for starting a fire in a restricted fire zone and under the Liquor Licence Act for person under 19 consuming liquor.

On Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 7:00 pm OPP responded to a bonfire in the 100 block of Haviland Shores Drive.

The resident owner was charged under the Forest Fire Prevention Act for starting a fire in a restricted fire zone.

OPP RESPOND TO MARINE CALL

(Lake Superior, ON)On Saturday, May 26, 2012 at approximately 6:00 pm OPP Marine Unit responded to a lost boater on Lake Superior near Red Rock.

The lone forty-nine year old male went fishing in his 16 foot powerboat and became disoriented when his boat ran aground.

He then placed a call to police on his cell phone.

The US Coast Guard assisted with the search and located the boat south of Gros Cap.

 OPP Marine Unit attended and escorted the boater back to the Gros Cap dock.

There were no injuries to the operator.

OPP remind boaters that it is not only important to have safety equipment on board but also navigational equipment and a marine VHF radio.

A cell phone may not always work on the open water.

MALE ARRESTED FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT

(Batchewana First Nation, ON) -    On Sunday, May 27, 2012 at approximately 12:30 am Batchewana First Nation Police responded to a domestic assault investigation on the Batchewana First Nation.

Upon police arrival, the accused was observed driving away and was stopped by police.

As a result of police investigation a forty-two year old male was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a motor vehicle, Operate a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, and Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was also charged with Possession Schedule II Cannabis Marihuana - under 30 grams - contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear for court on June 25, 2012.

DRIVER CHARGED IN MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

(MacDonald Twp., ON)OPP responded to a two vehicle motor collision at the intersection of Church St. and Highway 17 on May 27, 2012 at 4:30 pm. 

An SUV travelling through the intersection on Church St. collided with a truck and trailer travelling westbound on Highway 17.

Both the SUV and the trailer received extensive damage and had to be towed.

Fifty-five year old Betty-Lou MacDonald of 844 East Line Road, Bruce Mines, Ontario was charged under the Provincial Offences Act with Failing to Yield to Traffic on Through Highway.
