MALE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT POLICE (WHITE RIVER, ON.
MALE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT POLICE

(WHITE RIVER, ON.) – On April 30, 2010 Anishinabek Police Service (APS) in Pic-Mobert First Nations had occasion to arrest a 29 year old male for breach of a release order and was subsequently escorted to White River to be turned over to Superior East officers for processing. When he was being turned over to OPP members, the male who was allegedly intoxicated, became un-cooperative. As a result he kicked the inside back door of the APS unit causing damage. When officers removed him from the cruiser he assaulted the APS officer by spitting on him. The male was then escorted into the White River detachment and lodged. Later in the evening he was escorted to Sault Ste Marie for a bail hearing.
Charged with the following Criminal Code offences is Milton McWATCH 29 years of White River, Ontario;
(1) Fail to Comply with an Undertaking;
(2) Assault a Peace Officer;
(3) Mischief under $5000.00.

MALE CHARGED AFTER TRYING TO FLEE FROM POLICE

(Blind River, ON.) – On Friday April 30, 2010 at 2:00 a.m. officers from the East Algoma OPP detachment stopped a vehicle on Boom Camp Road in Blind River. As officers approached the vehicle the operator accelerated and headed towards police. Police began to pursue the vehicle, which was a Ford Contour for one half a kilometre before it entered the ditch and rolled over. When the officers approached the vehicle, the driver kicked out the rear window and attempted to flee on foot. Police were able to capture the suspect a short distance away, where after a short struggle he was placed under arrest. Charged is 19 year old Robert Raymond SCHELLEKENS of Blind River. SCHELLEKENS is charged with the following criminal offences:

1) Impaired operation, section 253(1)(a) Criminal Code
2) Being over 80 mgs of alcohol, section 253(1)(b) Criminal Code
3) Assault police officer, section 270(1)(a) Criminal Code
4) Resist/ Obstruct police, section 129(a) Criminal Code
5) Mischief under $5000.00, section 430(4) Criminal Code
6) Possession of stolen property under $5000, section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code
7) Theft of motor vehicle under $5000.00,section 334(b) Criminal Code
8) Flight from police, section 249.1(1) Criminal Code
9) Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, section 249(1)(a) Criminal Code

SCHELLEKENS is scheduled to appear in Blind River court on July 8, 2010.

MALE CHARGED AFTER STRUGGLE WITH POLICE

(Blind River, ON.) – On May 1, 2010 at 3:20 a.m. police stopped a vehicle on Robb Road in Blind River. Officers approached the driver and after speaking with him it was determined he had been consuming alcohol. Officers issued the roadside demand for a breath sample but the driver refused. Officers then arrested the driver for refusal at which time he began to fight with police. After a short struggle the driver was controlled and taken into custody. Charged is 19 year old Ryan James WATSON of Blind River. Watson is charged with:

1) Assault with intent to resist arrest, section 279(1)(b) Criminal Code
2) Fail to provide breath sample 254(5), Criminal Code
3) Obstruct/resist police, section 129(a) Criminal Code
4) Drive motor vehicle with open liquor, section 32(1) Liquor Licence Act

WATSON is scheduled to appear in Blind River Criminal Court on July 8, 2010.

POLICE REQUIRE ASSISTANCE IN SOLVING FAIL TO REMAIN

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – On Wednesday, April 28, 2010 police were called to attend the rooftop of the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake.

Upon arrival, police learned that between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. a male driver of a red pickup truck was allegedly reversing his vehicle when he struck the rear left passenger door of a parked black Toyota sedan. The red pickup truck may have had a white truck cap. The male driver of the truck allegedly exited his vehicle to inspect the damage, and then left the scene without reporting the collision to police. Bystanders may have witnessed this collision.

IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED

Motor Vehicle Collision


(Macdonald Twp., ON.) – On 01 May 2010 at 7:53 pm OPP, Echo Bay Fire Department and Sault Ste. Marie Ambulance were dispatched to Watson’s Road in Macdonald Township in regards to a motor vehicle rollover in the northbound ditch with a male and female trapped inside the vehicle.

The vehicle sustained major damage and had to be towed.

Both occupants were removed from the Honda vehicle and the 25 year old female passenger was transported to hospital by ambulance with non life threatening injures.

The driver, 27 year old Calvin John Doherty of Lake St. in Echo Bay, Ontario was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving, Driving with Over 80 milligrams of alcohol and Drive Disqualified contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear for Court on 07 June 2010.

RESIDENCE DESTROYED BY FIRE

NO INJURIES


(Aweres Twp., ON) - On the 2nd May 2010 OPP and Aweres Fire Department were dispatched to a house fire at 20 River Road in Aweres Township (Shetland Trailer Park).

The residence and its contents were completely destroyed by fire. The owners of the residence were not home at the time.

There was also minor damage to a residence next door as a result of the fire.

The Office of the Fire Marshall did not attend the scene and it was released after the fire was extinguished.
