FIRE CALLS

Goulais River, Ont.,

Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to several fire calls about grass and brush fires over the weekend.

In one case police were called to the intersection of Hwy 552 East and Post Office Road in Goulais River. A family had piled a load of firewood near the edge of the roadway and had spent sometime cutting up the load of wood.

Yesterday at about 5:00 p.m. police and fire officials were called to the intersection after a pile of sawdust and chips caught fire. The Goulais Fire and Rescue Department extinguished the fire.

In other fire calls, police were called to homes on Goulais Mission Road in Goulais River and Birchgrove Road in Heyden. In both circumstances callers noticed fires that appeared to be very large and due to the dry conditions of the surrounding bush, they were concerned about the fires getting out of control.
