ANOTHER SEVEN DAY VEHICLE IMPOUND

(Echo Bay, Ont) A Michigan teenager found out the hard way what happens when you travel way above the speed limit in Ontario.

On Friday 17 November 2007 at about 12:30 a.m. an officer with the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit was conducting radar patrol on Hwy 17 near Watson’s Road in Echo Bay. The officer clocked a westbound vehicle traveling at 60 km/h over the speed limit. The officer caught up to the vehicle and the driver was pulled over.

The vehicle the teen was driving was seized for seven days and his drivers licence was also seized. Nineteen (19) year old Aaron AMIN of Canton Michigan will appear in Sault Ste Marie court in January 2008 to answer his charge. Mr. Amin had four other people in the vehicle with him.

R.I.D.E FINDS SUSPENDED DRIVER

(Goulais River, Ont.) Officers with the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit found a suspended driver at a weekend R.I.D.E. check.

On Saturday night at about 7:00 p.m. officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. check on Pineshores Drive in Goulais River. A vehicle check revealed that the driver could not produce a driver’s licence. He couldn’t produce the licence because it has been suspended since 2003.

Thirty three (33) year old Robert PEPIN of Old Goulais Bay Road in Goulais River has been charged with Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

IMITATION GUN LANDS MAN IN BAIL COURT

(Goulais River, Ont.) A family dispute on Old Hwy 17 in Goulais River has landed a Goulais River man in bail court this morning.

On Saturday night at about 7:30 p.m. officers were called to the home after a woman reported being threatened with a gun. The investigation has revealed that a man living at the house had started arguing with other family members. The argument escalated to a physical confrontation with other family members.

At one point a woman in the house was threatened with a piece of wood and a handgun. Officers arrived and took a twenty three (23) year old Goulais River man into custody. An imitation handgun was located at the scene.

The accused was held in custody and appears in bail court this morning. He faces charges of Assault With a Weapon, Threatening and Using an Imitation Firearm While Committing an Indictable Offence.

CIGARRETTES STOLEN IN BREAK AND ENTERM

(Batchewana First Nation, Ont.) The Batchewana First Nation Police are investigating a break and enter to a home on the territory.

On Saturday night between 3:00p.m. and 9:00 p.m. a home on Frontenac Street was broken into. The culprits stole about ten cartons of cigarettes from the house. The smokes are valued at about $1000.00.

R.I.D.E. FINDS A VEHICLE WITH NO INSURANCE

(Echo Bay, Ont.) An Echo Bay man may find himself out lots of cash when he appears in court next year.

On Saturday night at about 10:00 p.m. officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. check at the intersection of Hwy 638 and Findlay Hill Road. A vehicle came through the spot check and the officer noticed the drivers seatbelt was not done up and the belt itself was ripped.

When the driver could not produce any documents for the vehicle, it was soon discovered that the driver did not have any insurance on the vehicle. Forty six (46) year old Henry BIER of Echo Bay has been charged with Operate a Motor Vehicle With No Insurance. He will appear in court on January 9, 2007.

If convicted of the charge he may face a minimum fine of $5000.00.

RYAN TAKES HIS DRINKS WITH HIM AND DRIVES

(Sault Ste Marie, Ont.) A Heyden man will be walking for the next ninety days after being caught drinking and driving over the weekend.

On Sunday morning at about 12: 15 a.m. an officer with the Sault Ste Marie OPP
detachment stopped a northbound vehicle on Great Northern Road in Sault Ste Marie. The driver showed signs that he was drinking. A roadside test indicated that he did have alcohol in his system and he was taken back to the OPP detachment for further investigation.

Further testing confirmed that the driver was well over the legal limit to be driving. As a result of this investigation, nineteen year old Ryan Theberge of Lawlor Road in Heyden has been charged with Driving While Over the Legal Limit of .08. Mr. Theberge was also found to have an open bottle of liquor in his vehicle. He was given a ticket for having the open booze in his vehicle.

FIGHTING WITH SPOUSE ALSO ENDS UP IN BAIL COURT

(Batchewana First Nation, Ont.) Sault Ste Marie OPP officers took one man into custody on Sunday morning after he damaged property belonging to his spouse.

On Sunday morning at about 10:30 OPP officers were called to an apartment complex on the Batchewana First Nation. A man had gotten into an argument with a female spouse and damaged a cell phone and other property in the apartment. Investigation has revealed that the man was on court orders not to molest, harass or annoy the spouse.

The suspect, a thirty six (36) year old Batchewana First Nation man, had fled the scene prior to police arrival but turned himself into the OPP later that afternoon. He is appearing in bail court this morning to answer charges of Mischief Under $5000.00 and Fail To Comply With a Court Order.

BREAK AND ENTER ON ALGOM RD

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating a break and enter report of a residence on Algoma Road in Elliot Lake.

Investigating revealed that unknown person(s) entered the residence via a window. Police checked the residence with a keyholder but could not determine if anything was missing.

Police would like to remind all citizens of Elliot Lake to make sure your residence is secured before leaving. If for any reason you have to leave your residence for a long period of time, ensure you have someone check your residence and pick up your mail on a daily basis.

Investigation continuing.

LOCAL CHURCH VICTIM OF MISCHIEF

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Police are currently investigating a mischief at a local church. The complainant reports that between 9:00 p.m. November 11, 2007 and 3:00 p.m. November 12, 2007 unknown person(s) caused damage to the church. The church is located on Mississauga Avenue. Damage reported is as follows; two (2) broken windows at the rear of the church and a light fixture at the front entrance.

Investigation continuing.

BREAK AND ENTER TO BUSINESS

(Tarbutt Township, Ontario) On November 14, 2007 at 7:00 a.m. the East Algoma OPP received a report of a break and enter to a business located on Highway 17, Tarbutt Township, Ontario.

Suspects entered the business and stole 2 computers and some meat from a freezer.

The break and enter occurred overnight between November 13 – 14, 2007.
