(Searchmont, Ont.) Someone in Searchmont has purposely damaged a seasonal home in the area with a pellet gun.

Sometime between mid October and this past Friday vandals went to a seasonal home on Hwy 532 in Searchmont. They removed and destroyed a quantity of no trespassing signs from the property and then shot a pellet gun four times at a window in the house.

It is suspected the culprits are from the Searchmont. Know someone in the village that may be responsible for this damage? Call the OPP or Crime Stoppers so the next house to be damaged hopefully won’t be yours.

STOLEN BOAT

(Goulais River, Ont.) Sault Ste Marie OPP are looking for a small stolen aluminum boat from a home in Goulais River.

About two weeks ago a seasonal home owner on Sand Bay Road in Goulais River drained and tied his boat on his property. He also removed the plug from the boat. He arrived at the camp this weekend to find the boat gone.

The boat is a 12 foot Sea Nymph boat with Michigan identifying numbers

(Heyden, Ont.) One person was taken to hospital with a badly broken ankle after a crash with a riding lawnmower and a disabled motorcycle

On Saturday afternoon a man on a riding lawnmower was towing a disabled motorcycle down the side of the road on Hwy 556 in Heyden. The two were going down a hill and the rope between the mower and the bike slackened off. The slack in the rope became tangled in the front wheel of the motorcycle. The driver of the lawnmower didn’t see the rope tangled in the motorcycle wheel and when he got to the bottom of the hill he pick up speed. The rope tightened up and the motorcycle flipped over.

The man operating the motorcycle was thrown from the bike. He received badly broken ankle and was transported to Sault Area Hospital by Ambulance.

No charges have been laid in this incident.

TELL TALE SIGNS A PERSON HAS BEEN DRINKING

(Sault Ste Marie, Ont.) A Sault Ste Marie man was charged with a drinking and driving offence after being stopped on Truck Road last night.

Last night at about 11:15 p.m. an officer with the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit noticed a vehicle traveling east on Truck Road near Fournier Road. The driver did not turn on the lights for the vehicle. The officer pulled the vehicle over and the driver showed signs that he had been drinking.

Further investigation indicated that the man was well over the legal limit to be driving. As a result of this stop, fifty (50) year old Steven CARTER of 4095 Queen Street East has been charged with Driving While Over .08 Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He drivers licence has been suspended for the next ninety days and his vehicle towed from the scene.

R.I.D.E. CHECK FIND SUSPENDED DRIVER

(Heyden, Ont.) A Sault Ste Marie man was caught driving while under suspension at another one of the OPP’s R.I.D.E. checks last night.

Last night at about midnight officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. check on Hwy 556 in Heyden. An officer asked to see the licence of one of the drivers coming through the spot check but he couldn’t produce a licence.

A computer inquiry soon revealed that he couldn’t produce a licence because it has been suspended.

Thirty five (35) year old Cedric PORTELANCE of 288 Douglas Street in Sault Ste Marie was charged with Driving While Under Suspension. Mr. Portelance also had his vehicle towed away.

MORE CHARGES AGAINST BATCHEWANA HOME ATTACK SUSPECT

(Batchewana First Nation, Ont.) Batchewana First Nation Police have laid more charges against one of the accused in a home attack from last weekend.

Last Saturday three men attacked five people in a home on August Street on the Batchewana First Nation. On the night of the attack one accused was taken into to custody by the Sault Ste Marie City police a short distance from the house. A second suspect surrendered himself to police the next morning.

As a result of the ongoing investigation by the Batchewana First Nation Police and a member of the OPP Crime Unit, officers have laid more charges against one of the accused men.

After the Batchewana First Nation police consulted with the family of the accused, eighteen (18) year old Robert ROBINSON-PERRAULT peacefully surrendered himself to the police. In addition to his outstanding charges laid against him last weekend, he now faces additional charges stemming from the attack.

The accused made a brief court appearance this afternoon and was remanded into custody for another bail hearing on Monday.

SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES LAID

(Thessalon First Nation, Ontario) On July 12, 2007 the East Algoma Thessalon OPP received a complaint of a historical sexual assault from 1998.

On November 1, 2007 charges were laid against David GIGUERE (53) of Thessalon First Nation, Ontario. Giguere faces two charges of Sexual Assault under the Criminal Code of Canada.

GIGUERE was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in Thessalon Court on January 10, 2008

WANTED MAN FOUND HIDING IN STORAGE AREA

(Batchewana First Nation, Ont.) A man wanted on outstanding arrest warrants was found this morning hiding in an apartment storage area.

This morning at about 8:00 a.m. police were called to an apartment complex on Frontenac Street on the Batchewana First Nation. Residents of the building complained about a suspicious person in the area.

A search of the building found a man hiding in a storage area. It was determined that there were two outstanding warrants for the man’s arrest.

Twenty one (21) year old Donald JORDAN Jr. of 6 August Street, Batchewana, was taken into custody and then down to bail court.
