STOLEN TRAILER (WAWA, ON) – On Thursday October 25, 2012 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment were advised by a business owner that a customer’s flat bed trailer was missing and believed to be stolen.

(WAWA, ON) – On Thursday October 25, 2012 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment were advised by a business owner that a customer’s flat bed trailer was missing and believed to be stolen.  The trailer was stored on the Winston Road property and was last observed there on Saturday October 6, 2012.  It is described as a 16 foot 2007 Big Tex flat bed trailer and is red in colour.  The trailer has damage to the driver side fender and the middle lens of the rear tail light is damaged.  At this time OPP continue to investigate and are requesting that anyone with any information is requested to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers.

DRIVER CHARGED - Operating E-Bike While Driver’s Licence Suspended

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) -  On November 4, 2012 at approximately 12:40 pm OPP on patrol observed a male driving an orange two wheel e-bike westbound on Trunk Road being operated by using the electric motor.

Further investigation revealed that the male was currently under a driving suspension.

Fifty-four year old Russel BARTON of Trunk Road, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was charged for driving while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

An e-bike becomes a motor vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act when being operated with an electric motor.

BREAK AND ENTER - Medication Stolen
 

(Batchewana First Nation, ON)A break in was reported to a residence in the 400 block of Frontenac Street, on the Batchewana First Nation on November 3, 2012.

A small quantity of prescription medication was taken.

HIGHWAY 17 WESTBOUND LANES CLOSED - ONE LANE IS NOW OPEN

(Garden River First Nation, ON) Sault Ste. Marie OPP advise that Highway 17 westbound is now open to one lane of traffic.

Previous Release:

Sault Ste. Marie OPP advise that the westbound lanes of  Highway 17 are closed, west of Highway 638, due to a motor vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer which is completely blocking the highway.

The is a detour for traffic available through old Highway 17B at Bar River Road and again at the intersection of Highway 17 and 638 through Church St. in Echo Bay for local traffic.

Minor injuries are reported to the driver of the tractor trailer.  The tractor trailer is loaded with frozen goods.   

It will be several hours before the highway is re-opened.
