Stolen vehicle ends up in a rollover collision (Desbarats, Ontario) - On Sunday November 7, 2004 at approximately 1:30 a.m. a resident in Thessalon, Ontario observed his vehicle starting up on the roadway in front of his residence.
Stolen vehicle ends up in a rollover collision

(Desbarats, Ontario) - On Sunday November 7, 2004 at approximately 1:30 a.m. a resident in Thessalon, Ontario observed his vehicle starting up on the roadway in front of his residence.

Two males had pushed the vehicle out of the driveway and were in the process of stealing the truck.

The truck was located by OPP on Highway 17 westbound from Thessalon.

The truck was followed and a stop was initiated within the town of Desbarats, Ontario.

The truck continued through the town of Desbarats, failing to stop, running two stop signs.

The truck continued on Government Road westbound out of Desbarats, traveling at speeds in excess of 120 k/h.

As the suspects in the stolen vehicle descended a hill onto a straight stretch just east of Smith Road, they left the roadway and rolled over in the south ditch.

The truck came to rest on its roof.

One male suspect was apprehended at the scene and the other male fled on foot.

The second male was apprehended at approximately 8:45 a.m. later that morning at the junction of Highway 17 and Kensington Road in Desbarats, Ontario.

Both males were transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

Andre CHARTRAND ((18) of Thessalon, Ontario has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

- Breach of Undertaking
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Fail to Stop Motor Vehicle
- Mischief
- Possession of Stolen Property (X3)
- Theft under $5000

CHARTRAND also faces charges under the Highway Traffic Act of "Fail to Stop for Police" and "Drive while under Suspension"

Mark VASEY (19) of Thessalon, Ontario has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

- Possession of Stolen Property
- Breach of Probation
- Breach of Undertaking (X3)
- Occupant of Motor Vehicle without Consent
- Theft under $5000

Located in the truck was a back pack with two stolen CD players.

One of the CD players was reported stolen later that morning and has been identified by the owner.

If you have had a CD player stolen from your vehicle, please come to the Thessalon OPP and identify it.

CHARTRAND and VASEY were scheduled for Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario at 10 a.m. today.

Rubbermaid Container Missing

(Desbarats, Ontario) - On Sunday November 7, 2004 a resident of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario contacted the East Algoma OPP regarding losing a Rubbermaid Container along Gordon Lake Road, Highway 638 or Highway 17 towards Sault Ste. Marie.

The Rubbermaid container is described as:

- Black/Dark Green
- Name "Action Packer" on the side
- 2' x 2' x 14"

It contained miscellaneous hunting and camping articles.

Missing Hunter Located

(Sudbury, ON) - At approximately 9:15 a.m. this morning, missing hunter Guy LECOURT, age 41, was located traveling home in his vehicle to the Chapleau area.

LECOURT was located by a Chapleau OPP officer and was found in good health.

The Noelville OPP would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance with this investigation.

The Ontario Provincial Police would like to take this opportunity to remind hunters that they should always plan ahead by letting someone know their route, destination and planned arrival time home.

This critical information could save your life and will assist searchers should you not arrive home as planned.

MNR and OPP partner up over weekend

Laird Twp, Ont. - Members of the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit teamed up with the Ministry of Natural Resources over the weekend to conduct joint patrols throughout the Sault Ste Marie OPP patrol area.

On Friday night Conservation Officers and OPP officers were conducting spot checks on the back roads in Laird Township.

As a result of these checks one person was charged with impaired driving and two other men were found to be drinking in their vehicles.

Forty-four-year-old Roger Leclair of Sault Ste Marie was charged with Impaired Driving and issued a 90 day drivers licence suspension.

Forty-two-year-old Barry Thomas and fifty-two-year-old Gordon Matthewson, both of Sault Ste Marie, were also charged under the Liquor Licence Act for having open liquor in their vehicle.

OPP Seek Overdue Hunter

(Alban, ON) - Members of the Noelville Ontario Provincial Police are seeking the media’s and the public’s assistance is locating a missing man.

41-year-old Guy Lecourt was last seen on Saturday at his cottage in Alban.

He relayed plans to drive to Killarney to go moose hunting in the late afternoon, returning to Alban that evening, and returning to Chapleau today (Monday).

He has not been heard from since Saturday afternoon.

Lecourt is described as 5’7”, 240 pounds, with a heavy build.

He has light brown hair and wears glasses.

He was driving a black 2000 4-door GMC Jimmy with Ontario plates APHW 123.

OPP are expecting that he possibly is anywhere between Killarney and Chapleau.
