OPP INVESTIGATE DEATH OF 16 YEAR OLD YOUTH
(Hodgins Twp., ON) – On November 7, 2010 at approximately 12:30 am Sault Ste. Marie Ambulance, OPP and Searchmont First Response were called to a residence in the 100 block of Hult Road regarding an unconscious 16 year old male.

16 year old Dylan Hult of Searchmont and an older male had left on a fishing trip on Saturday November 6, 2010 at approximately 1:00 pm on the Goulais River near Whitman Dam Road.

The two travelled down the Goulais River in a 12 foot aluminium boat with paddles.

The plan was to travel as far as Rendell’s corner and then camp overnight.

According to the other male, they were approximately ¼ kilometres before their final destination when the 16 year old stood up in the boat and fell overboard into chest deep water.

The other male jumped in and assisted the 16 year old to shore.

The male then carried the boy on his back through a wooded area towards the roadway in an attempt to get help, arriving at a residence on Hult Road.

The boy was transported to Sault Area hospital by Ambulance and pronounced deceased a short time after.

An autopsy is scheduled for today in Sudbury at the Sudbury Regional Hospital.

The investigation in continuing.

TWO OVERDUE HIKERS LOCATED
(Prince Twp., ON) - On Sunday, 7 November 2010 Sault Ste. Marie OPP were notified of a search for two overdue hikers being conducted by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

The two males were hiking along the coastline of Lake Superior between Red Rock and Gros Cap and were reported overdue at 9:00 pm by concerned family members.

Sault Search and Rescue Unit along with Sault Ste. Marie Police Service K-9 were conducting the search along the trail.

The Sault Ste. Marie OPP Marine Unit launched a vessel onto Lake Superior to conduct a shoreline search. It was fortunate that the waters were calm and the boat was able to be used time of year.

At approximately 1:10 am this morning the two hikers were located along the shoreline by the OPP Marine Unit.

The two males had been hiking but ran out of daylight and stopped at dark, started a fire, and prepared a lean-to for the night.

They two males were cold and tired but otherwise in good health.

The hikers were taken back to Gros Cap by boat
