WEEKEND CRASH ** Name/Age Correction Issued

(Echo Bay, Ont.) A two vehicle crash yesterday afternoon resulted in charges against a Sault Ste Marie man.

At about 1:00 p.m. yesterday a line of vehicles were traveling east on Hwy 17 near a business east of Echo Bay. Traffic was slowing to allow another vehicle to turn left off the roadway. The operator of a car did not notice the traffic slowing and drove into the back of the car in front of him.

Fifty year old Darshan GILL of Sault Ste Marie has been charged under the Highway Traffic act with Follow Too Close.


TWO IN CUSTODY AFTER HOME ATTACKED

(Batchewana First Nation, Ont.) Two young men are in custody facing a long list of charges after they attacked the occupants of a home on Saturday night.

The investigation is revealing that earlier in the evening one of the accused saw a young teenaged male in the back yard of the home. The teenager was confronted and assaulted by the accused. Adults in the home saw the confrontation, intervened and the accused left the area.

At about 8:15 p.m. the accused and two other people returned to the house and tried to force their way into the home. They were unsuccessful at one door and went to a second entrance. They were met at the second entrance by an adult male who lived in the house. The man was assaulted by all three suspects. Other adults in the house attempted to come to the rescue of the man. An altercation between the three suspects and five occupants of the house took place with all five occupants of the home being assaulted. During the altercation the suspects smashed the front window of the home with a beer bottle.

As police approached the scene the suspects fled the area. The Sault Ste Marie City police were notified and a short time later one of the accused was taken into custody and turned over to the OPP. On Sunday morning a second suspect surrendered himself to police.

One of the resident’s of the home suffered a broken nose in the assault. He was treated at hospital for his injuries. The other victims were injured but did not require immediate medical treatment.

As a result of this investigation two local men will appear in bail court this morning.
Eighteen (18) year old Robert ROBINSON-PERRAULT has been charged with Threatening, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Causing a Disturbance, four counts of Assault and three counts of Assaulting Police. It is alleged that upon arrest Robinson-Perrault spit in the face of one officer and spit on two other officers.

The second accused, twenty (20) year old Michael HODGSON, surrendered himself to police on Sunday morning. He is in custody for Assault Casing Bodily Harm. This matter is still under investigation and further charges against both accused are expected to be laid.

GOULAIS RIVER BREAK AND ENTERS

(Goulais River, Ont.) Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to two seasonal homes over the weekend for break and enters.

Sometime in the past week a storage shed and a trailer home on Four Season’s Drive in Goulais River were entered. The stolen property includes items such as a small outboard motor, chain saw, tools and a generator.

HUNTERS VEHICLE VANDALIZED

(Batchawana, Ont.) A hunter in the Mile 38 Road area of Batchawana reported that his vehicle had been stolen and vandalized.

Earlier in the weekend the victim left his vehicle parked on Mile 38 Road about 2 kms from Hwy 17. He then traveling into a friends hunt camp with the friend. Late yesterday afternoon the two hunters were returning from the hunt camp when the victim came upon his vehicle some 20 kms in on Mile 38 Road.

The vehicle had been stolen from where he parked it and numerous items stolen out of the vehicle.


Theft of Bicycle

(Blind River, Ont.) On Saturday 27 Oct. 07 East Algoma O.P.P. received a report of a stolen bicycle.
The owner reported that the bicycle went missing sometime in the previous two days from her back yard on Michigan Av.
The bicycle is a 21 Speed Mountain bike red in colour with silver.
Police are asking anyone with information on this theft to contact the O.P.P. at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222- TIPS (8477).

ASSAULT ON FEMALE LANDS MAN IN JAIL

(Goulais River, Ont.) Sault Ste Marie OPP have one man in police holding cells after a woman was assaulted last night with two different weapons.

Last night at about 9:30 p.m. police were called to a home off Anderson Road in Goulais River. The investigation revealed that a verbal argument between and man and woman escalated into violence.

It is alleged that the man held the woman down on a bed by the throat for a short period of time. As the woman attempted to flee the house she was assaulted in the neck with a fork and hit on the wrist with a baseball bat.

The woman was slightly injured but did not need medical attention. As a result of this investigation OPP took a forty (40) year old Goulais River man into custody. He will be charged with two counts of Assault With a Weapon, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Unlawful Confinement, and Breach of a Recognizance.

The man will make an appearance at W.A.S.H (Weekend and Statutory Holiday) Court this morning.

OPP Requesting Public’s Assistance in Collision Investigation

( Wawa, On ) The Ontario Provincial Police Superior East Wawa Detachment is currently investigating a single motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 17, 80 Kilometres South of Wawa Ontario. The collision occurred on Thursday the 18th of September/ 2007. The driver of the motor vehicle failed to remain at the scene of the collision.

The driver was described as Male White, approximately 6’ tall, slim build, short brown hair and possibly wearing eye glasses.
