(MacDonald Township, ON) On Friday, the 3rd October 2008 the owner of WIPE YOUR PAWS Pet Grooming Salon in Echo Bay discovered that suspect(s) unknown had entered the business overnight through a window.

Stolen items included two dog shirts and a bag of dog snacks.

MALE YOUTH CHARGED WITH ASSAULT AFTER SPITTING ON AN OFFICER

(MacDonald Township, ON) In the early morning hours of Saturday, October 4th Ontario Provincial Police accompanied by the Anishnabek First Nation Police attended a residence in Echo Bay to remove a 17 year old male youth that was no longer welcome at the residence.

Upon Police arrival the male was found to be under the influence of alcohol and refused to leave.

The male was arrested for Breach of the Peace under the Criminal Code and taken into Police custody where a struggle ensued. Upon arrival at the OPP Detachment, the male spat on one of the officers’ three times.

The youth was charged with one count of Assault Police and one count of Mischief under the Criminal Code of Canada.

He was released the following day on a Promise to Appear for Court.

FAST CARS AND ALCOHOL DON’T MIX

(Kars Township, ON) On Saturday, the 4th October at 00:10 a.m. and OPP officer on patrol eastbound on Mission Road in Goulais River observed a black 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier traveling westbound on Mission Road approaching the officer at a high rate of speed.

The officer pulled over the vehicle and spoke with the driver. The officer could detect an odor of alcohol and that the driver had bloodshot, glassy eyes. The driver (allegedly) admitted to consuming alcohol.

Arrested and Charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with over 80 mgs. of Alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code is 26 year old Jamie WABOOSE of Mission Road on the Batchewana First Nation.

WABOOSE was released on a Promise to Appear for Court on the 10th November 2008.

DRIVER ESCAPES INJURY AFTER VEHICLE CROSSED PATHS WITH A DEER

(Laird Township, ON) A 35 year old female driver escaped injury Saturday evening at 7:45 p.m. when traveling southbound on Highway 17 between Reid’s Road and Rydall Mill Road.

A deer ran out in front of the vehicle and was struck and killed. The vehicle had to be towed.

The driver, who was wearing her seatbelt, was not injured.

DRIVER CHARGED IN MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISON NORTH OF SAULT STE. MARIE

(Fisher Township, ON) On Sunday evening at approximately 7:00 p.m. OPP officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, one kilometer east of Pancake Bay Provincial Park.

The driver of a 1990 Honda Motorcycle traveling eastbound on Highway 17 was attempting to make a left hand turn into the Canadian Carver Rest Area. The driver pulled out in front of a vehicle traveling westbound.

The westbound vehicle, a 2000 Dodge Dakota made contact with the rear of the motorcycle causing it spin out of control and land in the gravel portion of the highway.

The female driver of the SUV did not sustain any injuries.

The driver of the motorcycle, 51 year old Gerald DONNELLY of 319 Dacey Road in Sault Ste. Marie received minor injuries.

DONNELLY was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Making a Left Hand Turn – Not in Safety.

FALL SEATBELT CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Sault Ste. Marie, ON) Officers from the Sault Ste. Marie OPP Detachment are not having a hard time finding unbelted vehicle users.

The Province wide campaign which began October 1st has seen 25 persons charged locally for non-seatbelt usage.

The Campaign runs until October 12th.
