Fleeing Suspects Arrested (Wawa, Ontario) On Saturday 6th October 2007, Superior East OPP in White River attempted to stop a car on Highway 17 that left a gas station before paying for gas in the Marathon area.

(Wawa, Ontario) On Saturday 6th October 2007, Superior East OPP in White River attempted to stop a car on Highway 17 that left a gas station before paying for gas in the Marathon area. The car turned out to be a stolen 93 Honda Accord from Calgary Alberta. The vehicle reached speeds of 170 kms per hour trying to flee the police for 90 kms.
The vehicle received 2 flat tires after driving over a spike belt that was deployed on Highway 17 by Wawa OPP.
The 2 suspects fled from the vehicle into the bush on the edge of Wawa.

With the assistance of Sault Ste Marie City Police Canine Unit and OPP Emergency Response Team, the 2 were apprehended a couple hours later hiding in the bush. One suspect sustained minor injuries after he was bit by the K9 during the arrest.

Charged with Possession Stolen Property, Theft Under, Breach Probation, Breach of Recognizance, Flight from Police, Dangerous Driving and several Highway Traffic Act charges are 24 year old Adam SHEWCHUK of Calgary Alberta and 26 year old Paul CAUGHLIN of Ingersoll, Ontario.
Both are being held in custody for a Bail Hearing in Sault Ste Marie on Tuesday, 9th Oct.
