(Thessalon, Ontario) On Friday September 14, 2007 members of the East Algoma OPP Detachment set up R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) in the Town of Thessalon.

One 12 hour suspension was given out and two Highway Traffic Act charges were laid, including a charge for driving with a radar detector. The radar detector was seized.

BUSINESS BREAK AND ENTERS

(Batchewana First Nation, Ont.) Sault Ste Marie OPP are investigating break and enters into three businesses on the Batchewana First Nation over the weekend.

Sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning thieves forced their way into three businesses located on Gran Street. Windows and doors were smashed and forced open. Officers found that the thieves ransacked and damaged the interior of the businesses causing extensive damage. At this time the business owners are finding small amounts of cash missing from the offices.

TWO SEASONAL HOMES ENTERED WEST OF SAULT STE MARIE

(Fenwick Twp, Ont.) Sault Ste Marie OPP are also investigating break and enters into two seasonal homes in the community commonly referred to as Red Rock.

The owner of a home in the 800 area of Lakeshore Road, off Maki Road west of Sault Ste Marie, attended his camp to find that criminals had entered the house. A door was forced open on the camp and the interior searched. A small amount of liquor was taken.

Police were checking other camps in the area and found a neighbouring camp had also been entered. It appears that liquor products were also the subject of that search.

REAL BAD DRIVING DRAWS ATTENTION TO DRUNK DRIVING

(Goulais River, Ont.) A Sault Ste Marie woman has been charged with drunk driving after her driving caught the attention of other motorists.

Last night at about 11:00 p.m. OPP officers from the Sault Ste Marie detachment were advised of a northbound vehicle having trouble keeping lane position and a wide range in speeds. Officers located the vehicle on Hwy 17 in Goulais River. The vehicle was stopped and the driver showed obvious signs that she had been drinking.

As a result of this investigation, fifty (50) year old Marilyn MCKINNEY of 243 Brown Street in Sault Ste Marie was arrested. She is charged with Impaired Driving and Driving While Over the Legal Limit of .08. Her drivers licence has been suspended for the next ninety days. She has been asked to appear in Sault Ste Marie court on Oct 15 2007

AVOIDING A CRITTER –DESTORYS VEHICLE AND CAUSES SECOND CRASH

(Mamainse Harbour, Ont.) OPP and the Batchawana Fire and Rescue Department were called to Hwy 17 near Mamainse Harbour on Friday night for a crash.

It appears that a car was traveling south on Hwy 17 when the driver indicated he tried to avoid a small animal. The car he was driving started to slide sideways then rolled over several times. The car came to rest upright in the middle of the roadway. The driver was wearing his seatbelt and therefore was not injured.

A second crash occurred when a northbound vehicle slid into the back of other traffic that was stopped for the crash. No one was injured in that crash.

CAR HITS TREE—TREE WINS

(Goulais River, Ont.) A Goulais River man escaped injury after his car slammed into a tree on Saturday night.

At about 8:15 p.m. on Saturday a car was traveling on west on Hwy 552 when the driver claims he hit the shoulder and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle went off the roadway and slammed into a tree. The driver was not injured but the car had extensive damage.

Twenty year old Jeffery DOAN of 146 Grant Road in Goulais River has been charged with Failing to Drive in Marked Lane contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

MOOSE AND JEEP COLLIDE-- JEEP LOOSES

(Goulais River, Ont.) A Heyden family escaped injury on Saturday night after the Jeep they were driving struck a moose on the highway.

On Saturday 15 Sept 2007 at about 8:30 p.m. the Jeep was traveling southbound on Hwy 17 between Pine Shores Road and the bottom of the Mile Hill. The Jeep struck a moose that was in the middle of the roadway. No one in the Jeep was injured but the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
