(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) RIDE spot checks conducted by OPP around the Sault Ste. Marie area resulted in two drivers being charged.

On Friday, the 19th of September 2008, 18 year old Stephanie CHIKOSOKI of Winfield Drive in Sault Ste. Marie was charged with Having Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available.

One male driver was issued a 12 hour Driver’s License Suspension.

On Saturday, the 20th September 2008 at 1:20 a.m. 21 year old Morgan Roach-Pine of Pine Grove Road in Garden River First Nation was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving after narrowly missing two O.P.P officer’s conducting RIDE spot checks on Highway 638, Garden River First Nation.

Roach-Pine was released on a Promise to Appear for court on Monday, 20th October, 2008 at 9:00 a.m.

OPP investigation into Assault on Greyhound Bus Continues

(Hunt Township ON) - Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is continuing the investigation into an assault that occurred on Sunday afternoon on a Greyhound Bus approximately 5 kilometres south of White River on Highway 17.

On September 21, 2008, at approximately 4:15 p.m., police responded to a report that a passenger had been assaulted by another passenger on board a westbound bus. The suspect disembarked from the bus several kilometres prior to the scheduled bus stop in White River. The OPP located the suspect and arrested him without incident on the side of Highway 17 in Hunt Township.

The 20-year-old male victim was taken to the Lady Dunn Hospital in Wawa and has been transferred to Sault Ste. Marie for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

There were no other injuries to any of the 13 other passengers on board the bus. The OPP Forensic Identification Unit completed the examination of the bus earlier this morning.

David Wayne Roberts, 28 years, of Manitouwadge Ontario has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and two counts of breach of probation. Roberts is in custody pending a bail hearing in Sault Ste. Marie on September 22, 2008.

The investigation is continuing.

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On September 21, 2008 at approximately 3:30 a.m. while on general patrol officers of the East Algoma OPP noted a vehicle at Spine Beach.

Charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Exceed 80 is Joel Michel MONTPELLIER (19) of Elliot Lake.

MONTPELLIER is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on November 4, 2008.

DRIVER CHARGED AFTER COLLISION WITH CYCLIST

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On September 19, 2008 at 7:03 p.m. police responded to call regarding a motor vehicle collision on Axmith Avenue in Elliot Lake.

On scene police learned that the driver was driving his vehicle westbound on Axmith Avenue wanting to turn left onto Robertson Road. The cyclist was also on Axmith Avenue eastbound when the collision occurred.

The driver was charged with Left Turn Fail to Afford Reasonable Opportunity to Avoid a Collision under the Highway Traffic Act.

The cyclist suffered minor injuries however he was transported to St Joseph Hospital as a precaution.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VICTIM OF BREAK ENTER AND THEFT

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating a break enter and theft at a local elementary school.

September 19, 2008 at approximately 7:53 a.m. police received a call to attend a school on Hergott Avenue. On scene police learned that sometime during the night unknown person(s) had entered the school through a window and removed two computers.

Anyone with information regarding the above Break Enter and Theft is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Investigation continuing.

MALE YOUTH CHARGED

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Officers of the East Algoma OPP have arrested and charged a 16-year-old male after receiving a complaint of threatening.

On September 19, 2008 at approximately 11:44 a.m. police attended a local high school regarding a possible threatening. Investigation revealed that the suspect had allegedly uttered threats to harm the victim, his family and his home.

Police attended the school and arrested the accused.

The 16-year-old male is charged with Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on November 4th, 2008.

The name of the accused will not be released under the jurisdiction of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
