SCHREIBER – According to the OPP Northwest Region, officers with the Schreiber and Nipigon (Ontario Provincial Police) Detachments arrested a suspect wanted in a murder on May 30 while responding to an incident near Gravel River on Highway 17.

Upon investigating the incident, officers determined the suspect in question was driving a stolen vehicle.

The officers observed the vehicle driving east of Schreiber on Highway 17 and decided to use a tire deflation device to stop the vehicle.

However, the vehicle continued and was not pursued by police.

The vehicle was later found near Sunset Drive, where 37-year-old David James Sietsma was placed under arrest.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed he had a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder issued by the Grande Prairie Royal Canadian Mounted Police in connection with the death of Echer Marcial, 34.

The accused was brought back to the Nipigon OPP Detachment and will be held in custody until he returns to the Grande Prairie RCMP Detachment.
