Pair arrested after replica firearm discharged in Massey

Manitoulin OPP respond to report of firearm discharged from vehicle towards residence

SABLES-SPANISH RIVERS TOWNSHIP – Police arrested and charged two people with weapons and drug offences after a replica firearm was discharged towards a residence Monday morning in Massey.

Shortly after 10 a.m., members from the Manitoulin OPP responded to a report of a firearm being discharged from a vehicle towards a residence on Montreal Street in the Town of Sables-Spanish Rivers.

No injuries were reported, police said in a release.

Police located the vehicle and arrested two occupants. Police say a search located an air pistol handgun, cell phones, drug paraphernalia and drugs suspected to be cocaine and opioids.

After an investigation, the driver, Lawrence Toulouse, 37, from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory, was charged with:

  • Fail to comply with Probation Order
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance - two counts
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - two counts
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Imitation firearm - use while committing offence
  • Discharge firearm with Intent
  • Reckless discharge of firearm - life or safety
  • Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Pointing a firearm

Toulouse was held for bail court and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 9 in Sudbury.

The passenger, Sandra Sorbley, 48, from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Imitation firearm - use while committing offence
  • Discharge firearm with intent
  • Reckless discharge of firearm - life or safety
  • Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Pointing a Firearm

Sorbley was held for bail court and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 1 in Sudbury.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the both suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
