Police lay choking-related charge in Wawa domestic incident

The accused is also charged with forcible confinement

A Wawa resident is facing a number of charges, including forcible confinement, after a domestic dispute.

Just before 8 p.m. on July 20, officers with the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to the dispute on First Avenue in Wawa.

After investigating, police arrested and charged a 25-year-old with:

  • assault causing bodily harm - choke, suffocate or strangle
  • assault - spousal
  • forcible confinement

The name of the accused was not released by police due to the domestic nature of the incident in order to protect the identity of the victim. The accused is scheduled to appear in court in August.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in August 2023 in Wawa. Due to the domestic nature of the incident, the name of the accused will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.
