A four-vehicle pileup in front of the water tower in Echo Bay sent two people to hospital yesterday at 6:30 p.m. A westbound motorist had stopped on the highway anticipating a flat bed tractor-trailer to pull out from the water tower driveway.
A four-vehicle pileup in front of the water tower in Echo Bay sent two people to hospital yesterday at 6:30 p.m. A westbound motorist had stopped on the highway anticipating a flat bed tractor-trailer to pull out from the water tower driveway.

Three other westbound vehicles attempted unsuccessfully to stop abruptly. A chain reaction collision resulted as the vehicles slammed into the rear of each other.

Two people were taken to hospital by ambulance where they were treated for minor injuries and released. All four vehicles were seriously damaged. Echo Bay 1st Response and Fire Department assisted at the scene with 1st aid and the removal of debris from the highway.

The highway was closed for only 25 minutes as police conducted an investigation and the vehicles were removed. The road was clear of snow at the time of the accident.

The Sault detachment of the O.P.P., Batchewana First Nation Police and the Anishinabek Police Service were at the accident scene. The investigation is continuing and
