SNOWMOBILE COLLISION CLAIMS ONE LIFE

(Shaw Road, Haughton Township, ON.) – On Friday February 20, 2008 at approximately 6:30 p.m. the East Algoma Thessalon Detachment received a call regarding a snowmobile collision on Shaw Road, Haughton Township, Ontario. The Shaw Road is located approximately 30 kilometres north of Thessalon, Ontario.

A 2006 Ski Doo GTX Snowmobile was travelling southbound on the Shaw Road when it collided with a 2000 Chevrolet Truck that was travelling northbound. The collision occurred in the northbound lane.

The driver of the Snowmobile, Ryan HERRINGTON (34) of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was transported to the Thessalon Hospital by Ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

The driver and passengers of the pickup truck were not injured in the collision. The pickup truck was being operated by a 60 year old from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

At the time of the collision the road was snow packed and the weather was clear and cold.

No charges will be laid.

Technical Traffic Collision Investigators from the East Algoma Thessalon Detachment attended the scene and are continuing their investigation.
