Assault with Weapon Leads to Injuries and Arrest (Blind River, Ont.) At around 8:00 a.m. East Algoma O.P.P. were dispatched to a residence on Algoma St. where it was reported that a man was chasing a woman with a cleaver.

(Blind River, Ont.) At around 8:00 a.m. East Algoma O.P.P. were dispatched to a residence on Algoma St. where it was reported that a man was chasing a woman with a cleaver.

Police arrived on scene to find that a 23-year-old female had been struck about the head with a weapon. She was taken to St. Joseph’s health Centre in Blind River where she was treated and released for injuries to her head.

Police approached the residence where the suspect was residing and found that he had locked himself in the house. Residents in the surrounding area were evacuated from their homes shortly after 10:00 a.m. for precautionary measures.
Police, who were assisted by North East Region Emergency Response Teams from Sault and Sudbury, Canine Units from Espanola and Greater Sudbury Regional Police Service, arrested the suspect without incident at about 12:30 p.m. Residents were allowed back to their homes shortly after that.

40-year-old Gilbert CARON of 9 Algoma St. Blind River, Ont. CARON will be held in custody pending a bail hearing later today
