2002 MARIHUANA ERADICATION PROGRAM RESULTS

During the months of August and September, joint efforts from officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Drug Enforcement Section, OPP North East Region, and the North Bay, Greater Sudbury, RCMP police services, and further supported by Crime Stoppers, conducted Marihuana "eradication operations" within Northern Ontario (North East Region).

Police confiscated over 6000 marihuana plants being produced on private and public lands throughout the North East. Nine individuals were charged with thirty (30) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Criminal Code offences.

Police also seized 15 firearms, and offence related properties valued at approximately $20,000 during the operation.

The seized plants have a potential street value of over 6 million dollars.

Cannabis plantations were located in the following communities and surrounding ares; North Bay, Sudbury, Burks Falls, Parry Sound, New Liskeard and South Porcupine.
