A car reported stolen to the Sault City Police at 2:00 o'clock this morning was spotted heading north on Highway 17 by O.P.P. officers. The 2001 Dodge p/u was from Calgary, Alberta. They stopped the Dodge at 3:56 a.m. but the car took off.

Police were in hot pursuit and had a spike belt put out at Montreal River that stopped the car successfully. There were no injuries and only minimal damage. The female passenger was released unconditionally and the driver, Richard Joseph Mercier, age 32, of no fixed address, has been held in custody.
