Assault On the 13th of July 2008 at 2:13am Sault Ste Marie Detachment members were dispatched to the Aweres Twp area in response to an assault. Preliminary investigation indicates that a male was assaulted by a second male wielding a beer bottle.

On the 13th of July 2008 at 2:13am Sault Ste Marie Detachment members were dispatched to the Aweres Twp area in response to an assault. Preliminary investigation indicates that a male was assaulted by a second male wielding a beer bottle. The suspect fled from the scene and the investigation is continuing.

Car Collides with Moose

On the 13th at 2:46am Sault Detachment members were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision 40 kms north of the Sault on Hwy 17. Investigation revealed that a single motor vehicle struck a moose and while the vehicle remained drivable the moose succumbed to injuries.

Single Vehicle Collision

On the 12th of July 2008 at 11:09pm Sault Detachment members were responding to a 10 person fight in the Aweres Twp area. While enroute the marked police car left the highway and was involved in a single vehicle collision. Two Ontario Provincial Police Officers were transported to the hospital where they were treated and released with minor injuries.

Missing Person's Located

At 3:38am on the morning of the 13th of July 2008 the Sault Detachment was advised of over due persons who were tubing down the Goulais River. Information determined that the 7 young adults had departed the Bellevue Valley area with a destination of Hwy 17. 3 of the 7 tubers made their way from the river after midnight while the remaining 4 were unaccounted for.
With the assistance of Sault Search and Rescue and the OPP Marine Unit a search was commenced and the remaining 4 persons being located – cold, wet and tired at 8:30am.

OPP INVESTIGATE BUS CRASH

On Saturday July 12, 2008 at 6:20 pm Superior East Wawa OPP responded to a single vehicle bus roll over on Highway 101 about 15 kms East of Wawa in Esquega Twp. OPP were assisted by the Wawa Fire Dept and ambulance personnel. The bus was carrying fire crews from the Ministry of Natural Resources who were coming back from the Timmins area. The bus was Westbound when it left the highway and rolled several times. The seventeen people on board were transported to the Lady Dunn Hospital in Wawa all with non-life threatening injuries. Investigation is continuing.
