A grandfather and his 2-year-old grandson, missing since yesterday, have been located. The grandfather, 54-year-old Gary Martineau, who suspected the police may have been searching for him and his grandson, reported to the Thessalon detachment of the O.P.P. at 8:00 o’clock this morning.

Sault Ste. Marie OPP officers had spent the night looking for the pair who went blueberry picking yesterday.

Sometime around 12:00 noon the two left their Echo Bay home. By midnight last night the two had not returned and police were called.

Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team and Sault Search and Rescue searched the area in the Ophir and Dunn’s Valley area (on Hwy 638 between Echo Bay and Bruce Mines) all night. At daybreak an OPP helicopter was on its way to the scene to assist in the search.

Details of the circumstances will be released later today. Both are reported to be in good condition


Mischief on the Tracks
(Porlock, Ontario- south of Burwash)

A CN train nearly derailed at approximately 4:00 p.m. yestreday near Hwy 637, west of Hwy 69.

The southbound passenger train, carrying approximately 250 passengers struck a piece of steel that was laid across the railway tracks. Upon impact two fuel tanks were ruptured spilling 1800 gallons of fuel and the tracks were damaged.

No one was injured in the incident as the engineer was able to bring the train to a safe stop.

Two males wearing dark clothing were observed in the vicinity of the train at the time of the incident. Anyone with information about this incident are urged to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
