SPANISH – Ontario Provincial Police say a southern Ontario resident has been charged after police responded to reports of an erratic driver on Friday on the highway east of the Sault.

At around 6:45 p.m., the East Algoma OPP received a traffic complaint that an eastbound pickup truck was "all over the road" on Highway 17 near the Town of Spanish, according to an OPP news release.

With assistance from the Manitoulin OPP, police located the vehicle in a local motel parking lot with the driver and passenger out of the truck.

"While speaking to the driver, police determined alcohol had been consumed," the OPP said. "The driver refused to provide a breath sample and was arrested."

Joanna Stroinska, 34, from Woodstock is charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Elliot Lake on Oct. 3.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Stroinska is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
