Attempted Traffic Stop Results in Recovery of Stolen Vehicle

A Sault Ste Marie OPP Detachment officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a ford van with 4 youths in it on Hwy#17 in Garden River on the August 30th at 2:30 a.m. The vehicle quickly turned off the highway and pulled into a driveway at Green Sky Drive on the Garden River First Nation. The driver ran off into the bush. Investigations reveal that the van had been stolen from a Dauphine St address in Sault Ste Marie. The owner of the van was not aware of the theft. Charged with Possession of stolen property over $5000, Flight from Police and theft over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code as well as driving without a license is Michael Rhodes age 18 of Wellington Street in Sault Ste Marie. Mr. Rhodes was held in custody pending a bail hearing on Thursday morning. The other occupants of the vehicle were unaware the van was stolen and have not been charged.


CONFRONTATION RESULTS IN CHARGES

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On August 23, 2007 while on general patrol, an officer was stopped by a motorist wishing to report a possible assault and threats.

Police investigated and Daniel Patrick DUCHARME (20) of Elliot Lake has been charged with the following:
Assault X2
Utter Threats X2

DUCHARME is scheduled to appear in court on October 2nd, 2007.

DRINKING AND DRIVING NET CHARGES FOR DRIVER

(Spanish, Ont.) On August 18, 2007 at approximately 9:27 p.m. while on general patrol, an officer of the East Algoma OPP noticed a vehicle driving at a slow rate of speed. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was charged with the following.

Charged with Impaired Operation and Over 80 is Jennifer VANDERVEER (29) of Spanish, Ontario. VANDERVEER is scheduled to appear in court on October 2, 2007.
