OPP WANT EVERYONE TO HAVE A SAFE LABOUR DAY WEEKEND

(SUPERIOR EAST) – This upcoming Labour Day weekend, officers of the Superior East Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be out in full force to ensure that safety is on the top of the list for everyone’s travel plans. OPP will be monitoring all traffic on local roadways, highways and waterways and will be focusing on the Big Four. This includes aggressive driving, lack of driver and passenger restraints, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and distracted driving.

With the increase in traffic comes an increase in collisions, efforts will be made to decrease fatalities and injuries caused by these collisions. OPP has consistently found the common factors in collisions to be speeding, following too closely, and failing to yield the right of way. Remember to stay focused while behind the wheel and follow the rules of the road. Getting everyone one home safe and sound is the goal of all officers.

The OPP urge motorists to be aware of their driving habits and commit to driving behaviours that ensure their safety and the safety of other motorists while on the road. “Our main focus will be keeping all motorists safe so they can enjoy the last long weekend of the summer.” states A/Staff Sergeant Sue Gordon. “We will do our part and we urge the public to do theirs by taking responsibility for their safety and that of their families.”
