(Echo Bay, Ont.) Officers conducting R.I.D.E. checks in Echo Bay last night found another impaired driver.

At about 10:00 p.m. last night officers with the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment and the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit were conducting festive R.I.D.E. checks at Church Street and Lake Street in Echo Bay. An ATV started to approached the officers and when the driver realized who they were, he attempted to flee the scene by a side road.

One officer blocked the side road and the driver stopped his ATV. The officers detected signs that the man was drinking and he was given a roadside test. He failed that test and he was returned to the detachment where further testing indicated that he was over the legal limit to the driving.

As a result of this investigation fifty three (53) year old Cecil Harry PRESTON, of 80 Robin Street in Sault Ste Marie, faces two charges. He has been charged with Driving While Over the Legal Limit of .08 and Driving With No Licence. Even though he has no licence, his ability to get one has been suspended for the next 90 days. The ATV he was driving was also towed away from the scene.

YOUTH CHARGED WITH THEFT

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Police have arrested and charged a 15-year-old youth after received a complaint of a possible theft at a local high school.

Investigation revealed that on December 18th, 2007 the complainant reports storing her purse in a closet located in a classroom. Later during the day money was noted to be missing.

Charged with Theft Under and Possession of a Controlled Substance (cannabis) is a 15-year-old youth of Elliot Lake.

The youth that cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act is scheduled to appear in court on February 5, 2008.

SNOWMOBILE STOLEN FROM LOCAL BUSINESS

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating a break, enter and theft at a local business on Oakland Boulevard in Elliot Lake. Sometime between 1900 hrs on December 17, 2007 and 0600 hrs on December 18, 2007 unknown person(s) entered the business and removed a 2005 Ski Doo Expedition. The stolen snowmobile is pewter in color and bears Ontario licence number 952663.

POLICE INVESTIGATING BREAK AND ENTER

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On the 17th of December 2007 police were called to attend a residence on MacFarlane Road in Elliot Lake regarding a possible break and enter. On scene police learned that sometime during the day of December 16th, 2007 unknown person(s) entered the residence and removed an undisclosed amount of money.
