LOCAL MALE REMAINS IN CUSTODY AFTER THREATENING COMPLAINT


(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – Police arrested and charged a local male after received a complaint of a possible assault with a weapon.

On December 27, 2010 at approximately 8:15 p.m. the victim was walking on Pearson Drive when a male subject approached her. The male blocked the path the victim was walking and allegedly held a knife at a child that was being carried by the victim. The subject then threatened to cause harm to the victim’s property and to her family if she called police on him. He then left the area.

The victim returned home and called police. Police patrolled the area and located the subject.

Charged with the following is Jason Daniel LANTAIN (36) of Elliot Lake.

Assault with a Weapon X2
Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm X5
Breach of Probation

LANTAIN remains in custody.


UNWANTED PERSON COMPLAINT LEADS TO ARREST


(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – December 28, 2010 at approximately 1:01 a.m. officers of the East Algoma OPP were called to attend an apartment building on Willoughby Road in Elliot Lake regarding an unwanted person.

The officers learned that the subject had been ringing an apartment attempting to gain access to the building.

When police arrived on scene, the subject was located and through investigation police learned that the male was also wanted by police for failing to attend court and assault.

The male was arrested and charged.

Charged with failing to comply is Michael Patrick OWENS (21) of Elliot Lake. OWENS is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on March 1, 2011.

VEHICLE IMPOUNDED FOR 7 DAYS


(Blind River, Ontario) – December 29, 2010 at approximately 10:34 a.m. while on general patrol on Highway 17 in the Municipality of Huron Shores police noted a motor vehicle to be travelling at a high rate of speed. Police without incident stopped the vehicle.

The vehicle had been travelling at a speed of 145 km/h in a posted area of 90-km/h limit.

The 19-year-old driver has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with “Race a motor vehicle”. He is scheduled to appear in a Blind River court on March 2, 2011.

The vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

BREAK ENTER AND THEFT ON CHRISTMAS EVE!

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating a break and enter on Christmas Eve.

Police learned that on December 24, 2010 the victim left his apartment to go to church at approximately 8:30 p.m. Upon his return at 10:30 p.m. noticed his apartment had been broken into. He contacted police and investigation revealed the following items missing:

A Flat screen TV
A DVD Player
One Computer
Two rings
One painting
Christmas Presents

Estimated value of property taken is $12,000.00.

CHECK BEFORE DONATING!


(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – Police responded to a call of a suspicious male canvassing the neighbourhood of Dieppe Avenue in Elliot Lake.

Investigation revealed that on December 29, 2010 at approximately 3:48 p.m. the complainant noticed a male walking in the area canvassing for the Diabetes Association. Police patrolled the area and located the subject.

Police spoke to the subject and learned that he did not have the authority to be canvassing for the Diabetes Association.

Charged with the following is Jessie ELLIOTT (22) of Whitefish Lake First Nation.

Fraud Under $5,00.00
Failure to Comply with sentence

ELLIOTT is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on March 1, 2011.
