MINOR INJURIES IN SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION

(WAWA, ON.) – On February 2, 2010 at approximately 5:30 pm Superior East OPP in Wawa had occasion to investigate a single vehicle roll-over which occurred on Highway 17 south of Wawa near Rabbit Blanket Campground. The northbound vehicle being operated by a male from WAWA, Ontario left the roadway, rolling over in the west ditch. As a result the female passenger had to be extricated by the Wawa Volunteer Fire Department. Both occupants were taken to Lady Dunn Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released. The driver has been charged with “Fail to Drive in Marked Lane” contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

CORRECTION

(WAWA, ON.) - On February 1, 2010 a media release was issued regarding a seizure of a quantity of Marihuana which occurred on Highway 17 south of Wawa. The quantity seized should have read 110.5 grams.

SNOWMOBILE THROUGH THE ICE

DRIVER NOT INJURED

(Larid Twp., ON) – A snowmobile driver escaped uninjured when the snow machine he was driving went through the ice near Pine Island yesterday afternoon at 4:40 pm.

The Skandic Skidoo was half submerged with the back end sticking out of the water.

Another rider that was on another skidoo did not go through the ice.

The OPP remind snowmobile riders to check the weather forecast and contact your local snowmobile club for trail and ice conditions before heading out onto frozen lakes or rivers.

Wear a buoyant snowmobile suit and carry ice picks in case you break through the ice.

Pack a survival kit that includes a first aid kit, trail map and compass, matches/lighter in a waterproof container, a knife or axe, flashlight, whistle and high energy foods such as nuts or granola bars.
