People in the area have reported receiving phone calls some someone identifying themselves as a representative from Revenue Canada. The person attempts to gain your personal information such as social insurance number. Everyone should very cautious about giving out any personal information over the phone. If you have any doubt or suspicions ask for a phone number where you can call them back. A legitimate business will have no problems furnishing you with a call back number.

FIRE AT LAIRD RACEWAY DESTROYS GARAGE AND CONTENTS

NO INJURIES

At approximately 01:15 am this morning Sault Ste. Marie OPP along with the Echo Bay Fire Department were dispatched to a structure fire at the Laird Raceway on Lake George Road in Laird Township.

The fire destroyed a metal garage (12ft x 30 ft) used to store tires and tire installation equipment that is utilized during the race season.

The contents of the building were also destroyed. The estimated value is not known at this time.

Preliminary investigation by Police indicates that the cause of the fire is unknown.

The Ontario Fire Marshall’s office has been notified and will be attending the scene later today.
