TWO VEHICLE COLLISION IN BATCHAWANA

Batchawana, Ont.,

No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle collision on Hwy 17 just south of Batchawana yesterday.

At about 6:00 p.m. last night two vehicles were headed southbound on Hwy 17 in the Batchawana area. One vehicle was in the midst of passing the other one on a passing lane. A truck traveling in the opposite direction caused a temporary white out from the snow it blew up. The car that was passing lost his bearings in the white out and drove into the side of the second vehicle.

The second vehicle spun around on the highway and ended up in the ditch. No one was injured in this collision and once the vehicle was pulled out of the ditch, they were able to continue on their way. No charges were laid in this incident.

YOUR CALL’S TO US TAKES AN IMPAIRED DRIVER OFF THE ROADWAY

Echo Bay, Ont.,

Several calls to the OPP yesterday morning resulted in an impaired driver being taken off the roadway.

At about 9:00 a.m. OPP started receiving several calls of a cube van traveling west from the Iron Bridge area. One of the calls indicated that the van crossed the center line into the path of a school bus. A second caller indicated that another vehicle was forced onto the shoulder of the roadway to avoid being hit by the van.

At about 9:30 a.m. officers from the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit located the van in the Echo Bay area. The driver was arrested for Impaired Driving and taken back to the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment for a Breathalyser test. The driver registered just under the legal limit of the Breathalyser and he was issued a 12 hour drivers licence suspension.

Further investigation revealed the driver; thirty four year old Bob Feliz of Innisfil Ontario, was driving with a suspended licence. He will have to make a return trip to Sault Ste Marie in March to answer to the Driving While Under Suspension charge.

As a second driver in the truck was leaving the area he pulled onto the roadway and cut off another motorist. Officers pulled the truck over again and charged the new driver with failing to yield.

MORE HIGH SPEEDS ON THE SNOW MACHINE TRAILS

Sault Ste Marie, Ont.,

An afternoon and evening patrol of the OFSC trails by members of the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit has resulted in yet more high-speed travelers on the snow machine trails.

Officers were on snow machine patrol yesterday and amongst some of the notable charges were three speeders. The officers clocked three snow machine operators traveling at 102, 107 and 109 km/h. The speed limit on all OFSC trails is 50km/h.

Two of the three speedsters were sixteen years old and neither of the two had any drivers licence.

Excessive speed and impaired driving are the leading cause of death and injury on the snow machine trails.
