ATTEMPTED TO STEAL GAS
An attempt to obtain gasoline without paying at a gas station north of Sault Ste. Marie will cost a British Columbia man an extended stay in the Sault.

At approximately 8:45am, Thomas James Callan, age 39, filled up a vehicle at Northgate Service Centre at Montreal River. He gave the attendant a credit card, which was rejected. When the attendant looked for the driver, he was gone, heading toward the Sault.

A description of the suspect and the vehicle was relayed to the Sault O.P P. who kept watch for the vehicle. At 9:15 p.m., officers spotted the vehicle, which attempted to evade police by pulling into a gravel pit in the Goulais River area where the lone male occupant was taken into custody.

A subsequent investigation revealed the credit card and the 2003 Chevy S-10 pick-up had been reported stolen in British Columbia. Callan will appear in bail court today.

He is facing charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of a stolen credit card, theft under, breach of probation and driving under suspension.
