A R.I.D.E. spot check on Hwy 17 at the east city limits proved to be productive for Sault Ste Marie OPP officers.

This morning at about 1:00 a.m. OPP patrol officers working with the Batchawana and Anishinabek First Nation Police set up the spot check at the border of the Sault Ste Marie City limit and the Garden River First Nation.

The first incident saw a vehicle attempt to avoid the R.I.D.E checks by pulling a u-turn in the middle of the roadway. A check of that vehicle revealed open liquor in the car. As a result of that check an eighteen year old woman from Illinois was charged under the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario.

A second check of a vehicle found that the driver of the car was driving while his licence was suspended. Further investigation by the officers determined that the same person was also wanted by the Sault Ste Marie City Police for several outstanding arrest warrants.
