MARIJUANA GROW OP RESULTS IN ARREST

(STILL RIVER, ON) – On the June 16, 2010, members of the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau - Sudbury Drug Enforcement Unit (a Joint Forces Unit consisting of members from the OPP and Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service), West Parry Sound OPP and Central Region Canine executed a search warrant on a rural property situated on the Old Still River Road. As a result, police arrested one person and seized approximately 8 lbs of suspected dried marijuana, 1004 marijuana plants, separate baggies of cannabis marijuana and cannabis resin, scales, growing equipment, and prohibited weapons. The grow operation consisted of both indoor and outdoor locations on the property.

While executing the warrant the OPP canine - Max - was attacked by a pit bulldog on the property. Several stitches were needed to repair the dog’s wound. Canine handler Constable Zugehoer advises that Max is back in service.

Joseph Mark Guy Beaulieu, 21, of Shelburne Ontario is charged with:
• Production of Cannabis Marijuana Section 7 (1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act
• Possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act.
• Theft of Electricity contrary to section 326(1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
• Possession of Prohibited weapon/device X 4 contrary to section 92(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Beaulieu was released on a Promise to Appear and Undertaking with a court date of July 29, 2010 in Parry Sound.

Police encourage members of the public to report any suspicious activities in the area to West Parry Sound OPP or Crime Stoppers.
