Early Morning Imparied

Echo Bay, Ont., An Echo Bay teenager will start this long weekend, and the rest of the summer, with a 90 day licence suspension and several charges to deal with after short police pursuit this morning.

This morning, just after 7:00 a.m., an officer with the Sault Ste Marie OPP Detachment was conducting radar patrol of Hwy 17 near Lake George Road in Echo Bay. He clocked a westbound vehicle at 182 km/h in a 90 km/h zone. The officer pursued the vehicle and the driver would not pull over for the marked police cruiser. The pursuit came into the Town of Echo Bay where the driver diverted onto a side street.

The driver pulled into a driveway and he was taken into custody. He had three other teenagers in the vehicle. The officer quickly realized that the driver had been drinking and he was returned to the OPP detachment for Breathalyzer tests.

As a result of this investigation eighteen year old Lucas JACKSON of Lake George Road in Echo Bay now faces charges of Impaired Driving, Fail to Stop for Police, and Speeding. He will make his first appearance in court on August 8, 2005 to answer all charges. He was also issued an automatic ninety day drivers licence suspension for being charged with a drinking and driving offence.
