Failure to Carry Proof of Insurance Results in Charges

The Sault Ste Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are asking all motorists to check their insurance cards in their vehicles and replace any expired card. So far this year Detachment officers have stopped 53 vehicles, cars, ATV’s and Motorized snowmobiles where the operators did not have valid proof of insurance. Under the highway traffic act failure to provide proof of insurance could result in a fine of $65.00. Driving with no insurance will result in fines that typically run from $2000.00 to $5000.00. Operating a motorized snowmobile without proof of insurance can result in a fine of $85.00 and $200.00 if not insured.

In addition to a ticked for failure to produce evidence of insurance officers will initiate an investigation to ensure the vehicle is actually insured.
