Police Need Public Assistance Identifying Robbery Suspect


(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP – Elliot Lake are requesting the publics assistance in identifying a robbery suspect from an incident initiated on May 6, 2006 just after 2:00 p.m. (For details see original release below)

The robbery suspect is described as:

6’ ft tall, slim build, wearing a ball cap, a grey hooded sweatshirt, beige coat and blue jeans

Last seen in the vicinity of Mississauga Ave and Hillside Drive South.

ROBBERY VICTIM RECEIVES MINOR INJURIES

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is currently investigation a robbery.

On Saturday, May 6th, 2006 at approximately 2:22 p.m. police received a report of a purse being stolen. Investigation revealed that at approximately 2:00 p.m. a 63-year-old female was walking on the sidewalk of Hillside Drive South, heading towards the downtown area, when she felt a tug on her purse. It was at this time that she realized someone had stolen her purse.

The victim who received minor injuries was able to flag down a passing motorist who in turn called police.

A lone male was seen running from the area.

Police are seeking the assistance of the public in solving this crime.

Threats lead to Arrest

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP has arrested a 23-year-old male after receiving a Threatening complaint.

Police were called on May 4th, 2006 requesting police assistance as a male known to the complainant had made several threats towards the complainant.

Police were unable to locate the suspect at the time of the complaint.

On Monday evening, May 9th, 2006 members of the East Algoma OPP conducted a takedown of a vehicle being driven by the suspect. James BURNS (23) (AKA – Jimmy Watson) of Elliot Lake was arrested and charged with the following:

Utter Threat To Cause Bodily Harm X3
Breach of Recognizance X2
Attempt to Evade Police

BURNS remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
