NEW SPEED LIMIT ON HIGHWAY 108

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The East Algoma OPP would like to remind citizens of Elliot Lake that recently the City passed a by-law which adjusted the speed limit on highway 108 (north and south) of the city to 60kms per hour.

Public safety being the focus of the change please be aware of all speed sign indicating the proper speed.

MISCHIEF INVOLVING FIREARM

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) –The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating a mischief to a Beamish Construction Caterpillar Loader which was situated at a pit north of Elliot Lake called Gull Beak II.

It is believed that incident occurred between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on May 19th, 2010. Through investigation police have learned that unknown subject(s) attended the pit and proceeded to damage the loader by shooting the vehicle. Forensic Identification attended the area and seized evidence. Preliminary estimate is over $40,000.00.

SHOPLIFTING IS A CRIME!

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – Wednesday, May 12, 2010 police were called to attend a Jewellery Store in the Algo Centre Mall regarding a possible theft. Through investigation police learned that the subject had attended the store and allegedly requested the assistance to look at several gold chains. The subject left the store and the employee noted several items missing.

Charged with the following is Barbara BLOOMER (56) of Elliot Lake.

Theft Under and Possession of Property obtained by Crime

Total value of items taken was $727.00.

BLOOMER is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on July 6, 2010.

YOUTH CHARGED WITH POSSESSION

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – As part of the “Substance Free School Initiative” police were called to attend a local high school in Elliot Lake on May 14, 2010 regarding a youth in possession of marihuana.

On scene police located and arrested a 16-year-old male. The youth has been charged with Possession of Cannabis Marihuana and is scheduled to appear in court on July 6, 2010.

The name of the youth will not be released under the jurisdiction of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
